A Quick Look at GKN
GKN Automotive’s market-leading Driveline division demonstrates strength in depth, with an extensive portfolio of products that combine value with technical expertise. The technologies span high-volume low-cost vehicles to top end premium cars with complex all-wheel drive driving dynamics. These world-class products are being constantly refined and improved for global Porsche customers.
Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche
Where GKN is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.
- Typical reasons people replace these parts include curing driveline vibration, clicking noises on full lock, and restoring smooth, confident acceleration.
- Common symptoms include clicking on full lock, vibration under load, torn CV boots with grease loss, clunks on take-up, and driveline shudder.
- Practical tip: a torn CV boot caught early can sometimes be fixed with a boot-only repair, but joints that have run dry or become noisy usually need full replacement.
- Practical tip: if both sides are of similar age, many owners choose to replace them together to keep wear even across the axle.
Browse by Category
If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.
Accessories — Porsche accessories in this context are about making the car easier to live with or personalise, from practical storage and interior items to protection products. Owners typically add or change accessories when existing pieces look tired, needs change, or they want extra comfort, convenience, or a different look. Common issues include worn mats, broken clips, rattles from loose fittings, or poor-quality add-ons marking original trim.
- Check whether an accessory is specifically listed for your Porsche model, interior type, and any factory options you have, and confirm if it can be removed without damage.
- Before ordering, review whether drilling or permanent modifications are required, especially on higher-value or collector cars.
Gearbox / Transmission — This category covers components that keep your Porsche selecting gears cleanly and transmitting power correctly, from clutch parts to gearbox internals and mounts. Parts are usually changed to address whining, crunching between gears, leaks, or difficulty selecting gears, and also during upgrades such as stronger clutches or different ratios. Many drivetrain refreshes are done proactively on higher-mileage cars to maintain reliability.
- Before assuming the gearbox itself is faulty, consider checks on clutch, linkage, mounts and correct oil type/level, as these can mimic gearbox problems.
- If you notice new noises or harsh shifts, avoid extended driving until the cause is investigated, as running a worn transmission can accelerate internal damage.
Driveshafts & Parts — Driveshafts and related hardware transfer torque from the gearbox or differential to the wheels while managing suspension and steering movement. They are commonly replaced to cure vibrations, clicking from CV joints, clunks when taking up drive, or to handle higher torque on tuned cars. Correct choice depends on drivetrain layout (RWD/AWD), shaft length, and flange or joint type.
- If you feel vibration under acceleration or hear clunks on take-up, inspect driveshaft joints, boots, and couplings early to prevent damage to the gearbox or differential.
- After installation, recheck all fasteners to specified torque and road-test carefully, as driveline components are sensitive to imbalance and loose hardware.
CV Joints Kits — CV joint kits provide the moving joint at each end of many Porsche driveshafts, allowing smooth power delivery through suspension and steering travel. They are typically chosen when there is clicking on turns, vibration under acceleration, or noticeable play in the joint, especially when the shaft itself is still serviceable. Kits are a common solution on higher-mileage cars where joints are worn but the core shaft remains in good condition.
- If a CV joint is already noisy or rough, fitting a boot alone is unlikely to be a lasting repair; a complete CV joint kit is usually the better option.
- Use the correct CV-specific grease supplied or specified, and ensure boots and clips are seated properly to avoid early failure.
CV Boots and Kits — CV boots seal and protect the CV joints by keeping grease in and contamination out. They are often replaced at the first signs of cracking, splitting, or grease leakage around the inner wheel arch, long before the joint itself has failed. Early boot replacement is a cost-effective way to extend joint and driveshaft life, especially on cars driven in wet or salty conditions.
- Inspect CV boots regularly for cracks around the folds or damp, greasy areas, as catching a failing boot early can prevent much more expensive driveline repairs.
- When replacing a boot, always use new clamps and the correct quantity of grease, and consider doing inner and outer boots together on the same shaft.

The CV joint boot is an essential part of the driveshaft assembly. It forms a flexible protective seal around the joint, retaining the specialised lubricant required for smooth operation while preventing dirt, water and other road contaminants from reaching the precision internal components.
A damaged or split CV boot should be replaced as soon as possible. Once the seal is compromised, grease can escape and contaminants can enter the CV joint, potentially causing accelerated wear and eventually requiring replacement of the complete joint or driveshaft.
Common Symptoms of a Failed CV Boot
• Grease visible around the drive shaft or suspension area
• Split, cracked or torn rubber boot
• Grease loss from the inner CV joint
• Clicking, knocking or vibration if the CV joint has become worn
• Dirt or water contamination inside the CV joint
• Boot clamp failure or loose boot seating
• MOT / roadworthiness failure due to damaged CV boot
• Damage found during drivetrain or suspension inspection.
When to Replace This Part
• If the inner CV boot is split, cracked or leaking grease
• If the boot clamp has failed or the boot no longer seals correctly
• During drive shaft repair or inspection
• If the CV joint is being cleaned, repacked with grease or serviced
• During suspension or drivetrain overhaul
• After road debris, impact or service damage to the boot
• Before CV joint wear develops from contamination
Where It Fits on the Car
This repair set fits at the inner CV joint area of the drive shaft, where the shaft connects towards the drive unit / differential side. Correct installation requires proper cleaning, correct grease application, secure clamp fitment and inspection of the CV joint. If the joint has already been run without grease or has contamination damage, the CV joint or complete drive shaft should also be inspected.

High-quality GKN CV joint boot kit GKNB11084 for selected Porsche Panamera 970 and Porsche 911 Type 991 GT3 RS / GT2 RS applications.
The CV joint boot performs an essential protective function within the drivetrain. It retains the specialised grease required to lubricate the constant-velocity joint while preventing dirt, water and road debris from contaminating its internal components.
If the boot becomes split, cracked or damaged, grease can escape from the joint and contaminants can enter. Continued use in this condition can cause rapid CV joint wear and may eventually require replacement of the complete joint or driveshaft.
What Does the CV Joint Boot Do?
A constant-velocity joint allows the driveshaft to transfer engine torque while accommodating changes in suspension position and driveshaft angle. The precision internal components of the joint operate under substantial load and rely on specialised grease to minimise friction and wear.
The flexible CV boot creates a sealed protective environment around the joint by:
Keeping CV joint grease inside
Preventing dirt from entering
Protecting against water and moisture
Allowing the joint and driveshaft to articulate normally
Maintaining an intact boot is therefore essential to maximising the service life of the CV joint and driveshaft.
Why Replace a Damaged CV Boot?
CV joint boots are continuously subjected to:
• High rotational speeds
• Repeated flexing
• Heat
• Road dirt
• Moisture
• Temperature changes
• Drivetrain movement
• Exposure to grease and other automotive fluids.
Over time, the rubber may harden, crack or split.
Common signs of CV boot deterioration include:
• Visible cracking
• Torn or split rubber
• Grease leaking from the boot
• Grease sprayed onto surrounding suspension components
• Loose or damaged retaining clamps
• Dirt or moisture around the CV joint
• Clicking or knocking noises
• Vibration during acceleration
• Excessive drivetrain play
Replacing a damaged boot early can protect an otherwise serviceable CV joint and help avoid the significantly greater cost of replacing the complete joint or driveshaft.

The CV joint boot is an essential drivetrain component that keeps the specialised lubricating grease contained within the joint while protecting the internal CV joint components from dirt, water, road debris and other contaminants.
If a CV boot becomes cracked, split or damaged, grease can escape and contaminants can enter the joint. Continued use in this condition can quickly accelerate CV joint wear and may eventually require replacement of the complete CV joint or driveshaft.
The GKNB11083 is manufactured from durable NBR nitrile rubber, providing the flexibility required to accommodate constant driveshaft movement while maintaining an effective protective seal.
What Does a CV Joint Boot Do?
The constant-velocity joint allows the driveshaft to transmit engine torque while accommodating changes in suspension movement and driveshaft angle.
The joint contains precisely machined internal components that rely on specialised high-performance grease for lubrication.
The CV boot forms a flexible protective seal around the joint, performing two critical functions:
• Keeping the lubricating grease inside the CV joint
• Preventing dirt, water and abrasive contaminants from entering.
Maintaining an intact CV boot is therefore essential to the service life of the CV joint and complete driveshaft assembly.
Why Replace a Damaged CV Boot?
CV boots are continuously exposed to:
• Repeated flexing
• High rotational speeds
• Heat
• Road dirt
• Water and moisture
• Grease
• Temperature changes
• Suspension and drivetrain movement.
Over time, the rubber can harden, crack or split. Common signs of CV boot deterioration include:
• Visible cracks in the boot
• Split or torn rubber
• Grease leaking from the joint
• Grease sprayed onto suspension components
• Loose or damaged retaining clamps
• Dirt or moisture around the CV joint
• Clicking or knocking noises
• Drivetrain vibration

High-quality GKN CV joint boot kit GKNB20647 for selected Porsche Panamera 971 / 976 & Taycan drivetrain applications.
The CV joint boot is an essential protective component of the driveshaft assembly. Its purpose is to retain the specialised CV joint grease while preventing water, dirt, road debris and other contaminants from entering the joint.
This GKN boot is manufactured from TPE - thermoplastic elastomer, a durable material particularly suited to modern high-performance drivetrains where CV joints can operate at elevated temperatures and under substantial torque loads.
Designed for a tripod-type CV joint, the GKNB20647 provides the precise fit required to maintain an effective seal around the joint and driveshaft.
A damaged or split CV boot should be replaced as soon as possible. Once the boot loses its seal, grease can escape and contamination can enter the joint, potentially causing accelerated CV joint wear and eventually requiring replacement of the complete joint or driveshaft.
