In the 2016 model year, the 991 entered its second generation, dubbed the 991.2 or 991 II. This iteration of the Porsche 911 brought forth fresh aesthetics, featuring updated front and rear bumpers, new dual exhaust pipes, and revamped head and tail lights. Notably, it ushered in a new era under the hood, boasting all-new 3.0ltr twin-turbocharged flat-six engines across the lineup. This marked a significant shift as it was the first time the base 911 models embraced turbocharged engines.
Despite the smaller engine capacity and the addition of turbos, the Carrera saw a commendable 30hp boost while the S models gained an extra 20 hp, accompanied by a substantial increase in torque. Furthermore, this transition to turbocharged powertrains resulted in improved fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions, though enthusiasts mourned the absence of the naturally aspirated engine's iconic roar.
