Diagram Ref No 1
Designed to fit along the relevant side member/body area, this trim provides both a protective and finishing function. It covers the underlying mounting area, helps shield adjacent surfaces from everyday road contamination and contributes to the clean, factory appearance of the vehicle's exterior.
Side member trim is particularly exposed to road dirt, stones, kerbs, cleaning chemicals and accidental contact. Over time, the original component can become scratched, cracked, loose, faded or physically damaged. Replacement restores secure fitment and the intended Matt Black exterior finish.
What This Product Does:
The side member trim forms part of the vehicle's exterior body finishing system.
Its primary functions include:
- Covering the relevant side member area
- Providing a clean factory-finished appearance
- Helping protect underlying and adjoining surfaces
- Reducing direct exposure to road dirt and debris
- Concealing mounting points and structural areas where applicable
- Maintaining the intended exterior body styling
- Providing a correctly shaped transition between surrounding body components
Although primarily a body trim component, correct fitment is important for both appearance and protection.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common signs that replacement may be required include:
- Deep scratches or scuffs
- Cracks or splits
- Chipped or broken sections
- Damaged edges
- Broken mounting tabs
- Missing clips or mounting points
- Trim becoming loose
- Gaps between the trim and body
- Rattling or movement while driving
- Warping or distortion
- Faded or discoloured finish
- Impact or kerb damage
- Damage following accident repairs
- Previous incorrect removal or installation
Minor surface marks may be purely cosmetic, while cracks or damaged mounting points can affect the security and alignment of the component.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a damaged side member trim helps restore both the appearance and physical integrity of the exterior trim system.
A new replacement can help:
- Restore the original Matt Black finish
- Correct cracked or broken trim
- Restore proper alignment
- Eliminate loose or rattling sections
- Cover and protect the intended body area
- Maintain consistent panel gaps
- Replace damaged mounting points
- Restore a factory-style exterior appearance
While cosmetic damage does not always require immediate replacement, loose or insecure exterior trim should be addressed before it deteriorates further or becomes detached.
