The IWIS Timing Chain is a replacement engine timing component for compatible Porsche applications. The timing chain forms a critical part of the engine's mechanical timing system, transferring rotational drive between timing components and helping maintain the precise relationship required for correct engine operation.

The timing chain operates continuously whenever the engine is running and works together with sprockets, chain guides and tensioners. Excessive chain wear, elongation or failure of associated timing components can affect timing accuracy, potentially resulting in noise, poor engine performance, diagnostic faults and serious internal engine damage.
What This Product Does:
The timing chain transfers rotational drive through the engine's timing system and helps keep critical engine components operating in the correct mechanical relationship.
A correctly functioning timing chain helps:
- Maintain accurate mechanical engine timing
- Synchronise the timing drive
- Support correct valve timing
- Transfer rotational drive reliably
- Maintain smooth engine operation
- Support consistent combustion and performance
- Maintain accurate timing throughout the engine speed range
The chain functions as part of a complete system. The condition of its guides, tensioners and sprockets can directly affect timing-chain operation and service life.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Timing chains are designed for long service life, but wear can develop due to mileage, inadequate lubrication, contaminated oil or deterioration of associated components.
Possible symptoms include:
- Metallic rattling from the timing-chain area
- Rattle immediately after engine start-up
- Persistent chain noise while the engine is running
- Check Engine Light
- Timing-related diagnostic fault codes
- Camshaft/crankshaft correlation faults
- Rough or unstable idle
- Engine misfires
- Difficult starting
- Poor acceleration
- Reduced engine performance
- Uneven engine operation
- Excessive chain slack
- Timing values outside specification
- Metal or guide material found in the engine oil or filter
Timing-related noises or diagnostic faults should be investigated promptly.
Why Replacement Matters:
The timing chain is fundamental to correct engine operation.
Replacing a confirmed worn or damaged Timing Chain helps:
- Restore correct timing-drive operation
- Maintain accurate mechanical timing
- Reduce excessive chain movement
- Correct problems associated with confirmed chain elongation
- Support smooth and consistent engine operation
- Reduce stress on associated timing components
- Prevent further deterioration of the timing system
- Reduce the risk of major internal engine damage
Timing-chain deterioration should not be ignored because a relatively manageable timing-system repair can become a significantly more expensive engine repair if the chain jumps timing or fails.
