What This Product Does
The bearing supports rotating components within the transmission, helping maintain their alignment while limiting friction. It is an internal gearbox component, rather than a clutch release bearing or retaining plate.
Functions
- Support rotation within the gearbox assembly.
- Help locate transmission components accurately.
- Limit friction at the bearing interface.
Symptoms of Fault
- Whining or rumbling from the transmission.
- Excessive movement in a supported shaft.
- Metallic debris discovered during an oil inspection.
- Visible bearing discolouration or damaged rolling surfaces.
Why Replacement Matters
A worn bearing can allow unwanted movement and contribute to further internal wear. During repair or rebuilding, inspect neighbouring bearings, shaft surfaces, retaining components and lubrication condition rather than treating noise alone as proof of this bearing's failure.
FAQs
- Does gearbox noise confirm a faulty bearing?
No. Oil condition, mounts, clutch components and other internal parts can produce similar symptoms, so diagnosis should precede replacement. - Can only one bearing be renewed?
A single replacement may be appropriate after inspection. A gearbox rebuild should include an assessment of the other bearings and supporting components. - What should be checked before fitting?
Verify the transmission code, original reference and dimensions, then assess adjacent components and use the specified gearbox lubricant.
