Designed for vehicles with conventional steel brake discs, this warning wire is not suitable for Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) applications. Manufactured to OE Match standards, it provides correct fitment, reliable electrical performance and dependable brake wear indication.
What Does the Brake Pad Warning Wire Do?
The brake pad warning wire monitors brake pad thickness by using a wear-sensitive electrical circuit.
Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring front brake pad wear
- Triggering the dashboard brake wear warning
- Helping prevent damage to brake discs
- Supporting safe brake maintenance
- Providing early warning of worn pads
- Maintaining correct brake system monitoring
Once the brake pad wears down to the sensor contact point, the circuit is interrupted and the vehicle displays a brake wear warning.
Why Do Brake Pad Warning Wires Fail?
Brake pad warning wires are exposed to heat, road debris, brake dust and moisture.
Common causes of failure include:
- Normal brake pad wear
- Heat damage from braking
- Damaged wiring insulation
- Corroded connectors
- Road debris impact
- Incorrect installation
- Reuse after brake pad replacement
- Age-related deterioration
In many cases, the warning wire is designed to be replaced once the brake wear warning has been triggered.
Symptoms of a Faulty Brake Pad Warning Wire
Common signs include:
- Brake pad warning light illuminated
- Warning remains after pad replacement
- Damaged or broken sensor wire
- Corroded electrical connector
- Intermittent brake warning messages
- Visible wire wear or heat damage
- Sensor missing from brake pad assembly
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended when:
- Front brake pads are replaced
- The warning light has been triggered
- The sensor wire is damaged
- The connector is corroded
- Carrying out brake system servicing
- Fitting new discs and pads
- Diagnosing brake warning messages
Most Porsche specialists recommend fitting new warning wires whenever brake pads are replaced.
Why Replacement Matters
A working brake pad warning wire helps maintain safe braking performance and protects expensive components.
Benefits include:
- Accurate brake pad wear monitoring
- Reduced risk of disc damage
- Reliable dashboard warnings
- Improved brake maintenance planning
- Correct system function
- Better long-term brake safety
- Factory-style fitment

What Does the Rear Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?
The rear brake pad wear sensor, also known as a brake pad warning wire, is fitted directly into the brake pad and continually monitors the thickness of the friction material throughout its service life.
Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring rear brake pad wear.
- Activating the dashboard brake wear warning light when replacement is required.
- Helping prevent excessive brake pad wear.
- Protecting expensive brake discs from unnecessary damage.
- Supporting routine brake servicing.
- Helping maintain safe and efficient braking performance.
The sensor provides an early warning, allowing brake pads to be replaced before they become excessively worn.
Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?
Brake wear sensors operate in a harsh environment where they
are exposed to heat, moisture, brake dust and road debris. Common causes of
failure include:
- Normal activation when the brake pads reach their wear limit.
- Damage during brake pad removal.
- Heat deterioration caused by repeated heavy braking.
- Corrosion affecting the wiring or electrical connector.
- Physical damage from road debris.
- Age-related deterioration of the cable insulation.
Once activated by worn brake pads, the sensor is generally considered a single-use component and should always be replaced when fitting new brake pads.
When Should the Rear Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- New rear brake pads are installed.
- The brake pad warning light is illuminated.
- The sensor has been activated through normal pad wear.
- The wiring has become damaged or brittle.
- The electrical connector is corroded.
- The sensor has been damaged during brake servicing.
Replacing the sensor during every brake pad change helps ensure the brake wear monitoring system continues to function accurately.

Manufactured using high-quality heat-resistant materials with durable insulated wiring and corrosion-resistant electrical connectors, the brake pad wear sensor is engineered to withstand the high temperatures, vibration, moisture and road contaminants encountered within the braking system. Designed for direct OE-style installation, it integrates seamlessly with the vehicle's brake pad and electronic monitoring system, providing reliable wear indication and factory-correct functionality.
What This Product Does:
- Monitors the wear level of the front brake pads.
- Sends a warning signal when the brake pads reach their service limit.
- Alerts the driver through the dashboard brake wear warning light.
- Helps ensure brake pads are replaced at the correct interval.
- Supports safe and efficient braking performance.
- Integrates with the vehicle's electronic brake monitoring system.
- Restores factory brake wear monitoring functionality.
- Forms an essential part of the front braking system.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Brake pad wear warning light remaining illuminated.
- Brake pad warning light failing to illuminate despite worn brake pads.
- Intermittent brake wear warning messages.
- Brake system fault codes relating to the wear sensor.
- Damaged or broken sensor wiring.
- Corroded electrical connector.
- Physical damage caused during brake servicing.
- Incorrect brake wear indication.
- Dashboard brake system warning message.
- MOT or vehicle inspection concerns relating to the braking system.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The brake pad wear sensor operates in a harsh environment where it is exposed to heat, moisture, brake dust, vibration and road debris. As the brake pads wear, the sensor is designed to make contact with the brake disc at a predetermined point, triggering the dashboard warning light. Once activated, or if damaged during servicing, the sensor should be replaced.
- A faulty or damaged wear sensor can provide inaccurate brake wear information, potentially delaying essential brake maintenance or generating unnecessary warning messages. This may compromise braking safety and lead to increased brake disc wear if brake pads are allowed to wear beyond their service limit.
- Replacing the brake pad wear sensor whenever new brake pads are installed helps ensure accurate monitoring of brake pad condition. The OE Match Front Brake Pad Wear Sensor is manufactured to OE standards using premium-quality materials, providing factory-style fitment, dependable operation and long-lasting durability, helping maintain the safety, reliability and braking performance expected from your Porsche.
