No risk, more fun
For some people it's important to show what they have, for others it's sufficient to know that they have it. The theme of the discussion here is the sports suspension. The BILSTEIN B6 Sports shock absorber is the ideal solution for drivers revelling in the understatement . The wolf in sheep's clothing snarls, when necessary, but otherwise goes reliably about its work in daily traffic with no lowering of the body whatsoever.
Optimum road holding, enhanced tracking stabilisation and excellent damping force: the BILSTEIN B6 Sports is not only first choice as far as sports tuning is concerned but also in the sphere of safety.

What This Product Does
The dampers regulate suspension movement as the rear wheels encounter changes in road surface. Top mounts provide the upper connection between the damper assemblies and the body.
Functions
- Control rear suspension compression and rebound.
- Provide the upper mounting connection for the rear dampers.
Technical Details
- Package: two REAR shock absorbers with top mounts. Damper identifiers: 26-118260 and BA5-B826.
- Bilstein identifies this damper as B6 Performance DampTronic, with monotube construction and compatibility with factory electronic damping controls. ()
- Designed for factory springs; the original spring seat is reused. Collapsed length: 390.0 mm; extended length: 519.5 mm. Lower attachment: clevis; upper attachment: stem. These specifications describe the damper, not the complete package. ()
- 997.1 diagram references: 99733305325, I475, Carrera 2/2S coupé/cabriolet and Carrera 4/4S; 99733304903, I475 Targa/Targa S 2007–08; 99733305324, Turbo coupé/cabriolet 2007–09. Damper quantity shown: two.
- 997.2 diagram reference 99733305333: Carrera 2/2-S coupé PR:030; PR:756; Carrera GTS coupé PR:011,030; Carrera 4/4-S coupé PR:030; 4 GTS coupé PR:019,030. Each damper entry shows quantity two.
- Additional diagram assembly context includes SportClassic, Speedster and Targa/Targa S. These references distinguish suspension versions and should be checked against the vehicle specification.
Symptoms of Fault
- Persistent bouncing or a floating sensation over uneven surfaces.
- Damper leakage or visible damage.
- Knocking around the rear suspension.
- Uneven tyre wear or inconsistent damping behaviour.
- PASM warnings or unexpected differences between selectable modes.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewing worn dampers together addresses deterioration on both sides of the rear axle. Inspect bushes, links and mountings during diagnosis: suspension noises do not necessarily originate in the dampers, and electrical faults can involve wiring or connectors.
FAQs
Should both rear dampers be renewed?
An axle pair avoids retaining an older damper on one side; assess the front suspension separately.
Is alignment needed afterwards?
Arrange a geometry check following suspension work.
Will coding or calibration be necessary?
Requirements depend on the vehicle and work performed. Confirm the installation procedure and inspect the electronic connections before completing the repair.
