In 2010, Porsche unveiled the original Type 997 911 Sport Classic, a limited-run model that captured enthusiasts' hearts with its distinctive design cues and enhanced performance. Now, Porsche revives this iconic concept with the 992 911 Sport Classic, the second collector's item in its Heritage Design strategy.
Inspired by the 1972 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the new 992 Sport Classic embodies the spirit of the original with its grey paint, ducktail spoiler, and double-bubble roof. Unlike its predecessor, which was based on the Carrera S, this iteration derives its power from the more potent 922 turbo S.
Inside, the Sport Classic showcases the iconic Pepita houndstooth pattern on the door panels and seat centers, along with two-tone leather upholstery in Black/Classic Cognac for a touch of elegance.
Under the hood, a 3.8ltr twin-turbo flat-six engine delivers 550PS of power, positioned between the 911 GTS and 911 turbo in terms of performance. The engine features variable turbine geometry (VTG) and wastegates for superior power delivery, drawing air through ducts under the rear spoiler instead of traditional rear side panel intakes.
Mated to a seven-speed manual gearbox, the Sport Classic offers the most powerful manual transmission in the 911 lineup, with an auto-blip function for smooth downshifts and a shortened shift lever for quick, crisp gear changes.
The suspension, derived from the 911 turbo and 911 GTS models, features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and a sports suspension with a 10mm lowered ride height for enhanced performance. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) ensure superior stopping power, with brake calipers painted in High-Gloss Black.
The interior package pays homage to the classic design elements of the original Sport Classic, including the two-tone leather interior and houndstooth fabric, while the exterior showcases wider rear fenders and a large ducktail spoiler crafted from CFRP. With its blend of heritage-inspired design and modern performance, the 2023 911 Sport Classic captures the essence of Porsche's legendary racing heritage while offering a unique driving experience for enthusiasts.
