997 MK1 TURBO 2007-09

The 997.1 turbo made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2006, showcasing several notable enhancements. A redesigned front bumper now featured LED turn signal strips integrated into the air intakes, while the fog lamps were relocated to the corners of the bumpers. Distinctive large air vents positioned before and after the rear wheels were clear indicators of its turbo model designation. Utilizing the wide body shell of the AWD models, the Turbo boasted a more aggressive stance compared to the base 911 models. Additionally, it incorporated a retractable rear wing and air vents on the rear quarter panels to ensure effective engine cooling. Remarkably, the 997 turbo shed 41 kg compared to its predecessor, thanks to the extensive use of aluminum in key components.

The engine, based on the 911 GT1's design, delivered impressive performance figures. With ratings of 480PS (353kW; 473bhp) and 620 Nm (457 lb⋅ft) of torque (680 Nm (502 lb⋅ft) with overboost), the engine was managed by the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system in conjunction with the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system for optimal torque utilization. Notably, the engine featured two BorgWarner VTG turbochargers, a first for a Porsche production car, along with a two-stage resonance intake system. The Variable Turbine Geometry, integrating guide vanes on the turbine wheel, minimized turbo lag at low speeds while preventing excessive back pressure at high RPM.

As an additional option, Porsche offered its ceramic brake system, PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake). Noteworthy advantages included a reduction of 17 kg compared to the standard brake system, exceptional fade resistance due to consistent friction values, and absolute corrosion resistance. The brake system featured 380 mm diameter discs at the front and 350 mm at the rear, ensuring robust stopping power.
