917 style CNC machined key blanks for your air-cooled Porsche 911. Available in different materials, raw or PVD coated for protection and decorative purposes.
These key blanks are machined from 303 stainless steel bars – the same material used in the factory keys
Black key blank is PVD coated for protection and decorative purposes
Note: Some subtle machined tool marks maybe evident on the surface of the key bows. We personally like the finish, and did not polish/sandblast them, as it reflects the CNC machining process behind the keys.
Note 2: Stainless steel and brass key copies can just be made in your local hardware store. After demurring with the usual wire wheel, additional use of a piece of sandpaper (200-320) is needed to smooth the sharp edges left from the cutting process.

Ignition Switches – Reliable Starting Power for Porsche Vehicles
The ignition switch is a vital component in your Porsche’s electrical and starting system. It’s the gateway between the driver and the vehicle’s ignition, responsible for powering essential circuits — from the starter motor and fuel pump to dashboard electronics and accessories.
At Design911, we supply a full range of genuine and high-quality ignition switches for Porsche models, including 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera. Each switch is precision-engineered to ensuring smooth operation, reliable starting, and long-term durability.
What Does an Ignition Switch Do?
The ignition switch controls
the flow of electrical power throughout your vehicle. When the key is turned
(or the start button is pressed), the switch engages different electrical
stages:
- Accessory position: powers interior systems such as the radio or windows.
- On position: activates the engine’s control systems and dashboard electronics.
- Start position: sends power to the starter motor to crank the engine.
In modern vehicles, the ignition switch may also interface with immobiliser systems or electronic control modules for added security.
Why Do
Ignition Switches Fail?
Over time, ignition switches
can deteriorate due to wear, heat, vibration, and moisture exposure.
Common causes of failure include:
Symptoms of a failing
ignition switch include:
- The engine not cranking or starting.
- Electrical accessories failing to power on.
- The key getting stuck in the ignition.
- Flickering dashboard lights or intermittent electrical faults.
Why Replace a Faulty Ignition Switch?
A failing ignition switch can quickly escalate from an inconvenience to a breakdown or safety risk. Replacing it restores proper electrical control, ensuring your Porsche starts and runs reliably.
Benefits of
replacement include:
- Reliable engine starting and accessory power.
- Elimination of intermittent electrical faults.
- Improved safety and system reliability.
- OEM-level compatibility and performance.
