The Porsche 928, manufactured by Porsche AG of Germany from 1978 to 1995, stands as a grand touring car with a 2+2 seating layout. It marked Porsche's first full in-house design for a production vehicle, born from a vision to adapt to shifts in the automotive market. 

Initially positioned as a potential successor to the iconic Porsche 911, the 928 sought to amalgamate the agility and performance of a sports car with the comfort, spaciousness, and smooth ride of a luxury vehicle. Porsche's decision-makers anticipated a broader audience appeal compared to the compact and aging air-cooled 911. Noteworthy for being Porsche's inaugural production model featuring a front-mounted V8 engine, the 928 achieved remarkable top speeds, earning acclaim upon its 1978 debut by clinching the European Car of the Year award. Described by Autocar in 1980 as a "super car," the 928 left an indelible mark on the automotive landscape.
