The windscreen washer jet plays a simple but essential role in the washer system by directing washer fluid evenly onto the windscreen. This allows the wiper blades to effectively remove dirt, dust, insects and road grime, ensuring clear visibility in all driving conditions. The tall chrome design also contributes to the authentic period appearance of the front bonnet, making it an important finishing detail during any restoration.
Manufactured to OE Match standards, this replacement washer jet offers the correct fit, finish and chrome appearance, making it ideal for concours restorations, routine maintenance or replacing worn original components.
Why Do Windscreen Washer Jets Fail?
Over many years of use, washer jets are continually exposed to weather, road dirt, UV light and hard water deposits. These conditions can cause the small nozzle opening to become blocked, reducing or completely preventing washer fluid from reaching the windscreen.
The external chrome finish may also become pitted, corroded or damaged through age and exposure to the elements, detracting from the appearance of the vehicle. In some cases, accidental damage during polishing or bonnet work can bend the nozzle, affecting the spray pattern and reducing cleaning effectiveness.
As the original washer jets on many Porsche 356 models are now over sixty years old, deterioration is common even on well-maintained vehicles.
When Should They Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever the washer jet no longer produces a consistent spray pattern or shows visible signs of deterioration.
Common signs include:
- Weak or uneven washer spray
- Blocked or partially blocked nozzle
- Corroded or pitted chrome finish
- Bent or damaged nozzle
- Washer fluid missing the windscreen
- During concours restorations or bonnet refurbishment
Replacing tired washer jets restores both the functionality of the washer system and the authentic appearance of the vehicle.
