The water pump circulates coolant from the radiator through the engine block and heads, then back to the radiator to reject heat. Over time and mileage, the original water pump can suffer from impeller wear, seal degradation, bearing fatigue or corrosion - especially given the demanding thermal environment of the 996’s flat-six engine.
