This hose forms part of the pressurised liquid-cooling circuit and carries coolant between the engine and the water-pump return pipe. Its job is to maintain a reliable, sealed route for coolant returning through the engine cooling system so that heat can be transferred away from the engine and dissipated through the radiators.
Because the hose operates continuously in a hot, pressurised environment, it is exposed to repeated thermal cycling, coolant chemicals, engine vibration and ageing. Over time, the rubber can harden, crack, swell or begin leaking around its connections.
