What This Product Does
This breather carries air and petrol vapour along the tank's ventilation route. Sound pipework and sealed joints help contain vapour within that route. It is a ventilation component, not a pump or an injector feed pipe.
Functions
- Connects sections of the tank breather circuit.
- Provides a passage for air and petrol vapour.
- Retains the factory pipework layout when replacing a deteriorated component.
Technical Details
- Part identification: 96420105100.
- Diagram designation: vent line; also described as a breather line.
- Assembly application: 964 fuel system, 1989–94.
- Quantity shown in the diagram: 1.
- Recorded diagram remark: /LL.
- Approximate weight supplied: 0.09 kg.
Symptoms of Fault
- A petrol odour near the car.
- Cracking, brittle sections or other visible deterioration.
- Damaged joints or insecure connections.
- Leaks detected when inspecting the ventilation pipework.
Why Replacement Matters
Ageing, heat and prolonged exposure to petrol vapour can damage breather pipework. Replacing a defective section helps re-establish a sealed ventilation path while preserving the factory arrangement. Inspect neighbouring hoses, clamps and supports during the repair; a new line will not resolve faults elsewhere in the assembly.
FAQs
- Does this carry the engine's pressurised fuel supply?
No. The diagram identifies it as ventilation pipework for the tank. - What else needs checking?
Look for deterioration in nearby hoses and inspect their joints, clamps and supporting components. - How do I verify the application?
Use the VIN and relevant Porsche parts illustration to confirm that 96420105100 matches the vehicle. - Does a petrol smell prove this line is faulty?
No. Filler connections, the tank and other hoses can also cause odours, so establish the source before replacing components.
