This set comes as a package with 2 hood struts and 1 decklid strut.
How many times have you replaced your hood and decklid struts? Us too… that's why we developed a line of fully mechanical hood and decklid struts. This is the last set off struts that you will ever need. Factory hood/decklid struts are hydraulic filled and will eventually fail, without question. They are sensitive to weight and to temperature making them unreliable and less than ideal for aftermarket decklids and tails. If you've ever installed a fiberglass hood or tail, you've probably also noticed the pressure of the hydraulic shock likes to torque the body panel, often creating an uneven body gap on the top left side.
Operation is simple. Just open your decklid all the way up, and it will remain in place. Push it up one more time and it will release the stop and come back down.
Rennline's fully mechanical hood and decklid struts will not fail for the life of the product, and therefore carry a lifetime warranty. They utilize a billet design with complex machining to ensure a smooth and reliable operation. They're available with either a carbon fibre body or a black aluminum body to suit your style.

The bonnet strut, sometimes referred to as a bonnet damper, gas strut or lift support, is responsible for supporting the weight of the front bonnet once opened. Using internal gas pressure, the strut assists with lifting and holds the bonnet securely in position during maintenance, inspections and everyday use.
Over time, bonnet struts naturally lose pressure and become less effective, causing the bonnet to feel heavier, fail to remain open or suddenly drop without warning. Replacing worn bonnet dampers is an important maintenance task that improves both convenience and safety.
This heavy-duty version offers enhanced lifting performance and increased support compared to ageing original units, making it particularly suitable for restored vehicles, regularly driven classics and cars fitted with additional bonnet-mounted equipment.
What Does a Bonnet Strut Do?
The bonnet strut is designed to assist with opening and supporting the front bonnet. It uses compressed gas within a sealed cylinder to counterbalance the bonnet's weight, reducing the effort required to lift it while holding it securely in the open position.
A properly functioning bonnet strut helps provide:
Smooth bonnet opening and closing Secure bonnet support when raised Improved safety during maintenance Reduced strain on hinges and mounting points Convenient access to the luggage compartment Greater confidence during servicing and inspectionsWhen Should a Bonnet Strut Be Replaced?
Bonnet dampers gradually weaken as the internal gas pressure decreases with age and use. Environmental conditions, temperature fluctuations and long-term storage can accelerate wear.
Common signs that a bonnet strut requires replacement include:
Bonnet slowly drops when open Bonnet will not remain fully open Increased effort required to lift the bonnet Visible oil leakage from the damper Reduced lifting assistance Sudden bonnet closure during maintenance Excessive play or wear in the mounting pointsReplacing a worn bonnet strut restores safe operation and helps protect both the vehicle and the user from accidental bonnet closure.

Premium Porsche Bonnet Support Components
Design911 supplies a comprehensive range of Porsche bonnet struts, bonnet dampers, gas springs, lift supports and body hardware components for classic and modern Porsche models. Whether you're restoring an early Porsche 911, maintaining a Porsche 912 or replacing worn bonnet support components, our range helps ensure safe and reliable bonnet operation.
Bonnet struts are often overlooked maintenance items, yet they play a vital role in vehicle usability and safety. A properly functioning bonnet damper keeps the bonnet securely supported while providing smooth opening and closing action.
Replacing weak or leaking bonnet struts can dramatically improve everyday convenience and reduce the risk of accidental bonnet closure during maintenance.
Why Replace Porsche Bonnet Struts?
As bonnet dampers age, the internal gas pressure gradually decreases, reducing their ability to support the bonnet safely.
Benefits of replacing worn bonnet struts include:
Improved safety during maintenance Smooth bonnet operation Reliable bonnet support Reduced strain on bonnet hinges Enhanced convenience and usability Prevention of accidental bonnet closure Improved restoration quality and originalityRelated reference numbers
