Rear lid lock
The Porsche Genuine OE Rear Lid Locks (Part Nos. 477827505A and 477827506A) are original factory latch mechanisms designed for the rear hatch / tailgate of Porsche 924 and 944 models. These components secure the rear lid in the closed position and form part of the vehicle’s body locking and release system. Each lock is supplied as a single genuine Porsche product (sold individually) and is side-specific.
Fits:
Porsche 924 1976 - 1979
Porsche 924 1980 - 1985
* Chassis upto >>92FN4 00898
Porsche 944 1982 - 1985
* Chassis upto >>94FN4 22084 and upto >>94FN4 00259
Diagram ref no 22
These parts have been superseded by updated Porsche numbers:
• 94453895500 – Left side - replaces 477827505A
• 94453895600 – Right side - replaces 477827506A
The rear lid lock engages with the lock striker pin mounted on the body to securely hold the rear hatch closed. When the release mechanism is activated (via key or cable linkage), the lock disengages, allowing the rear lid to open.
This ensures:
• Secure closure of the rear boot/hatch
• Protection of luggage compartment contents
• Proper alignment and sealing of the rear lid
Functions & Technical Role
• Latch mechanism: Locks the rear hatch securely to the body
• Release operation: Works with cable/linkage or key system for opening
• Alignment control: Maintains correct positioning of the rear lid
• Vibration stability: Prevents rattling or movement of the tailgate
• OEM durability: Manufactured to Porsche specifications for long service life
Rear lid locks are subject to constant use, vibration, and exposure to dirt and moisture, which can lead to wear or failure over time.
Common issues include:
• Difficulty closing or opening the rear hatch
• Loose or misaligned tailgate
• Rattling noise from the rear lid
• Insecure locking of the luggage compartment
Replacing worn locks with genuine Porsche OE components restores proper function, security, and original factory fit.
