Rear engine lid damper
OE Match rear engine lid damper for Porsche 996 Carrera 4S Coupe models. This replacement gas strut helps support the rear engine lid during opening and holds it securely in the raised position for safer and easier access to the engine bay.
Sold individually, 2 required per vehicle.
Fits:
Porsche 996 C4S COUPE
Diagram ref no 2
What this part does
The damper assists with lifting the rear engine lid and helps hold it open once raised. A correctly functioning strut reduces the effort required to open the lid and helps prevent it from dropping unexpectedly during engine bay access.
Functions:
• Replaces the rear engine lid damper
• Helps raise and support the engine lid
• Holds the rear lid securely in the open position
• Reduces effort when opening the engine compartment
• Helps prevent the lid from dropping unexpectedly
• Suitable for engine lid repair or restoration
Why Replace This Part?
Engine lid dampers gradually lose gas pressure due to age, repeated use, temperature changes, and seal wear. A weak or failed damper may no longer support the lid correctly, causing it to fall, sag, or require manual support. Replacing worn dampers helps restore smooth and secure rear lid operation.
When to Replace This Part
• Rear engine lid will not stay open
• Lid slowly drops after being raised
• Damper feels weak or provides little resistance
• Gas strut is leaking or physically damaged
• Engine lid feels unusually heavy to open
• Rear bodywork or engine bay restoration is being carried out.
Where it fits on the car
This damper fits within the rear engine lid support assembly on Porsche 996 C4S Coupe models.
