What This Product Does
The pressure line carries hydraulic fluid within the power-assisted steering circuit. It provides the fluid path needed for hydraulic steering assistance; it is not a return line or a steering-fluid cooler.
Functions
- Transfers pressurised steering fluid.
- Connects components within the hydraulic steering circuit.
- Supports the operation of power-assisted steering.
Technical Details
- Brand: Genuine Porsche.
- Part number: 94534744702.
- Component: power steering pressure line.
- Drive configuration: Right Hand Drive (RHD).
- Equipment requirement: M657 power-assisted steering.
- Internal diagram application: Porsche 968 1992–95, power steering, vane-type pump and lines.
Symptoms of Fault
Potential signs include fluid escaping from the line or its connections, damp sections, corrosion and seepage around crimped joints. Falling fluid levels may also accompany heavier steering or pump whining. These symptoms can have other causes, so inspect the hydraulic system before deciding which component needs replacement.
Why Replacement Matters
Renewing a leaking or deteriorated pressure line addresses fluid loss and helps restore correct hydraulic operation. Selecting the specified RHD component is important for matching the vehicle’s routing and connections. Inspect neighbouring hoses and seals during the repair rather than assuming the pressure line is the only source of leakage.
FAQs
Should other hoses be renewed at the same time?
Inspect them for ageing, dampness and deterioration. Replace any additional hoses found to be defective.
Should the system be flushed?
Flushing is recommended when the existing fluid is contaminated. Follow the applicable Porsche service procedure.
What should be checked during installation?
Use the correct sealing washers or O-rings where required, and avoid twisting the hose when securing its connections.

Diagram Ref No 26
This hose forms part of the low-pressure or suction side of the hydraulic steering circuit.
Unlike the high-pressure line that carries pressurised fluid from the pump towards the steering rack, this hose supplies the pump with a continuous flow of fluid from the reservoir.
Its condition is therefore extremely important to the health of the complete hydraulic steering system.
The hose must remain:
- Flexible.
- Internally unobstructed.
- Properly sealed.
- Correctly routed.
- Securely connected.
As these vehicles age, the original rubber hose can harden, crack, soften, swell or begin leaking around its ends.
A deteriorated suction hose can also allow air to enter the hydraulic system even when there is little or no visible external fluid leak.
Air entering the pump can cause whining, fluid aeration, inconsistent power assistance and potentially premature pump wear.
Replacing a deteriorated suction hose restores a secure fluid path between the reservoir and pump and helps maintain reliable hydraulic steering assistance.
What This Product Does:
The Power Steering Suction Hose carries hydraulic fluid from the power-steering reservoir to the inlet of the power-steering pump.
Its main functions are to:
- Supply power-steering fluid to the pump.
- Maintain an unrestricted hydraulic-fluid path.
- Keep the pump inlet sealed from outside air.
- Prevent loss of hydraulic fluid.
- Help prevent pump cavitation.
- Support consistent steering assistance.
- Maintain proper circulation through the power-steering system.
- Replace an aged, cracked or leaking original hose.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common symptoms include:
- Power-steering fluid leaking around the hose.
- Damp or oily hose surface.
- Low reservoir fluid level.
- Power-steering pump whining.
- Groaning during steering.
- Foamy or aerated fluid in the reservoir.
- Bubbles visible in the reservoir.
- Heavy steering.
- Intermittent steering assistance.
- Hose visibly cracked.
- Hose hardened with age.
- Hose swollen or softened.
- Fluid seepage around clamps or connections.
- Pump noise particularly when cold.
- Steering noise when turning at low speed.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a deteriorated Power Steering Suction Hose helps restore:
- Reliable hydraulic-fluid supply.
- Airtight pump inlet sealing.
- Correct fluid circulation.
- Consistent steering assistance.
- Reduced pump noise.
- Reduced fluid leakage.
- Reduced risk of pump cavitation.
- Long-term hydraulic system reliability.
