Designed for precise fitment on Porsche 987.2 models, this kit ensures proper airflow management, secure installation and long-term reliability.
What the Inlet Manifold and Throttle Body Do
The inlet manifold distributes air evenly to each cylinder of the engine. It plays a critical role in maintaining balanced airflow and supporting optimal combustion.
The inlet manifold gaskets create airtight seals between the manifold and cylinder head, preventing unmetered air from entering the system. The distributor tube rubber seals prevent leaks within the intake distribution system.
The throttle body regulates the amount of air entering the
engine based on accelerator input. It works in conjunction with the engine
control unit to:
- Maintain smooth idle
- Deliver responsive acceleration
- Support correct air-fuel mixture
- Optimise fuel efficiency
- Maintain engine performance
The throttle body seal and mounting bolts ensure the assembly is secured correctly and remains leak-free.
Why Inlet Manifold Components Fail
Over time, intake system components are exposed to:
- High engine temperatures
- Oil vapour and carbon deposits
- Repeated heat cycling
- Vibration and mechanical stress
- Age-related rubber hardening
Common failure causes include:
- Cracked or flattened inlet manifold gaskets
- Hardened distributor tube rubber seals
- Carbon build-up in the throttle body
- Throttle actuator wear
- Reused mounting bolts losing proper clamping force
When intake seals fail, unmetered air can enter the engine,
leading to:
- Rough idle
- Hesitation during acceleration
- Lean mixture fault codes
- Check engine light activation
- Reduced fuel efficiency
- Whistling or hissing intake noises
Why You May Need This Complete Inlet Manifold Kit
If your Porsche 987.2 is experiencing intake air leaks, throttle response issues or fault codes related to mixture control, replacing all sealing components and the throttle body together ensures a thorough and reliable repair.
This kit is ideal for:
- Diagnosing intake manifold air leaks
- Fixing rough idle on Porsche 987.2 Boxster / Cayman
- Replacing a faulty electronic throttle body
- Preventative maintenance during intake removal
- Engine rebuild or carbon cleaning service
- High mileage maintenance refresh
Replacing all gaskets, seals and mounting hardware at the same time reduces repeat labour and ensures proper clamping force and long-term sealing integrity.
At Design911, we supply high-quality intake manifold and throttle components engineered to meet OEM specifications. This complete inlet manifold kit is designed to restore engine efficiency, improve drivability and maintain Porsche performance standards.
Using a comprehensive kit ensures correct sealing, stable idle and optimal airflow under all driving conditions.
