These OE direct-fit brake wear sensor integrates seamlessly with your Porsche's electronic braking system, ensuring accurate wear monitoring and helping prevent unnecessary brake disc damage caused by excessively worn brake pads.
What Does the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?
The brake pad wear sensor is an important safety component that monitors the thickness of the front brake pads. As the friction material wears down, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc, completing an electrical circuit that activates the brake wear warning light on the dashboard.
Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring front brake pad wear.
- Activating the dashboard brake warning light.
- Preventing excessive brake pad wear.
- Helping protect the brake discs from damage.
- Supporting scheduled brake maintenance.
- Improving overall braking safety.
The sensor provides an early warning, allowing brake pads to be replaced before braking performance is compromised.
Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?
Brake wear sensors are consumable components and are
designed to be replaced during brake servicing. Common reasons for failure
include:
- Normal activation once the brake pads reach their wear limit.
- Heat generated by the braking system.
- Damage during brake pad removal.
- Road debris and moisture.
- Corrosion of the electrical contacts.
- Wiring damage caused by age or movement.
- General wear after years of service.
Once activated, the sensor cannot normally be reused and should always be replaced with new brake pads.
When Should the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- The brake wear warning light is illuminated.
- New front brake pads are installed.
- The sensor has contacted the brake disc.
- The wiring has become damaged.
- Corrosion affects the electrical connector.
- During routine brake servicing.
- As part of a complete front brake overhaul.
Replacing the sensor at the same time as the brake pads ensures accurate future wear monitoring and avoids unnecessary labour costs.

Brake pad wear sensors provide an early warning when your front brake pads have reached their service limit, allowing them to be replaced before braking performance is affected or damage occurs to the brake discs.
This OE Match replacement uses a single pad sensor design, whereas the original Porsche sensor uses a double pad sensor. Despite this difference, the sensor functions exactly as intended by connecting it to one brake pad only, providing the same reliable brake wear monitoring and dashboard warning operation as the original system.
Manufactured to OE-quality standards, this direct-fit replacement offers dependable performance, excellent durability and outstanding value.
What Does a Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?
The brake pad wear sensor is an electronic monitoring device fitted to the brake pads. As the friction material wears down, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc, completing an electrical circuit that illuminates the brake wear warning light on the dashboard.
Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring front brake pad wear.
- Activating the dashboard brake warning light.
- Preventing excessive brake pad wear.
- Helping protect expensive brake discs.
- Supporting scheduled vehicle maintenance.
- Improving braking safety.
The warning system gives the driver sufficient notice to replace the brake pads before braking performance is compromised.
Single Sensor Design
Unlike the original Porsche sensor, which monitors two brake pads, this OE Match version uses one single pad sensor.
This is completely normal for this replacement design and does not affect operation. Simply connect the sensor to one brake pad, where it will function exactly as intended by providing accurate brake wear indication through the factory warning system.
Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?
Brake wear sensors are designed as consumable service components and are normally replaced during every brake pad change.
Common reasons for replacement include:
- Activation after the brake pads reach their wear limit.
- Damage during brake pad removal.
- Heat generated by the braking system.
- Moisture and road contamination.
- Corrosion of the electrical contacts.
- Wiring damage caused by movement or age.
- General deterioration over time.
Once activated, a brake wear sensor should not normally be reused.
When Should the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- The brake wear warning light is illuminated.
- New front brake pads are installed.
- The sensor has contacted the brake disc.
- The wiring becomes damaged.
- Corrosion affects the electrical connector.
- During routine brake servicing.
- Completing a front brake overhaul.
Brake pad wear sensors should normally be replaced whenever replacing your brake pads to ensure accurate brake wear monitoring and reliable long-term operation.

Why Replace This Part?
Brake pad wear sensors are designed to wear with the brake pads and may be damaged or triggered once the pads reach their wear limit. Sensors can also become brittle, corroded, broken, or damaged during brake servicing. Replacing the rear sensor during brake pad replacement helps restore the warning system and prevents false or missing brake wear alerts.

• The sensor has been triggered by worn rear brake pads
• The sensor wire is damaged, broken, brittle, or corroded

• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche Boxster or Cayman brake system restoration.
