This component is an oil seal, often referred to as the “large oil pump / oil cooler seal.” Its job is to prevent oil from leaking at the joint between the oil pump (or oil cooler housing) and the engine block or other mating surface. It maintains pressure integrity within the oil circuit, preventing external leakage and loss of oil. A proper oil seal helps protect surrounding engine components (gaskets, housings) from oil contamination and keeps the lubrication system efficient.
Location: Mounted at the interface of the oil pump or oil cooler to the engine block — typically around a rotating shaft or coupling.
Function: Provides a leak-proof seal for high-pressure oil flow between engine and pump housing
Installation: Direct-fit OE replacement — replace whenever the pump or cooler is removed
Maintenance Tip: Always replace during engine rebuilds or if any oil seepage is detected near the cooler or pump area
