Information
Point set
OE Match point set for Porsche 911 models from 1972 to 1973. This replacement ignition contact breaker point set helps restore correct distributor ignition switching, supporting reliable spark delivery, smooth running, and accurate engine timing.
Fits:
Porsche 911 1972 - 1973
Diagram ref no 18
The point set opens and closes within the distributor to trigger the ignition coil and create spark at the correct time. Correctly adjusted points are essential for reliable starting, smooth idle, clean acceleration, and proper ignition timing.
Functions
• Replaces the ignition contact breaker point set
• Helps trigger ignition spark through the distributor
• Supports correct ignition timing
• Helps restore smooth starting, idle, and throttle response
• Suitable for routine ignition tune-up and distributor service
• Replaces worn, pitted, burnt, corroded, or incorrectly adjusted points
• OE Match replacement for classic Porsche 911 ignition maintenance.
Why Replace This Part?
Ignition points wear over time through electrical contact, heat, distributor cam movement, and age. Worn or pitted points can cause weak spark, misfires, difficult starting, poor idle, hesitation, reduced performance, or incorrect dwell angle. Replacing and correctly setting the point set helps restore accurate ignition operation.
When to Replace This Part
• Routine ignition service or tune-up is due
• Starting is difficult or inconsistent Idle is rough or unstable
• Engine misfires, hesitates, or lacks response
• Ignition timing or dwell angle cannot be set correctly
• Existing points are burnt, pitted, worn, corroded, or damaged
• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche 911 distributor or ignition restoration.
Where it fits on the car
This point set fits inside the ignition distributor on Porsche 911 models from 1972 to 1973. It forms part of the distributor-based ignition system.
