The parking brake actuator motor is a small electric drive unit that applies and releases the rear parking brake mechanism when commanded by the vehicle’s control module. When you activate the EPB via the cabin switch, this motor translates that signal into mechanical movement - engaging or releasing the parking brake pads. This ensures your vehicle remains securely parked, even on inclines, and integrates smoothly with auto-hold or hill-hold features.
Function:
• Activates & releases the electronic parking brake when commanded via switch or control module.
• Provides controlled parking brake engagement without under-floor mechanical cables.
• Interfaces with vehicle stability systems, enhancing safety and convenience.
Over time the parking brake actuator motor can fail due to wear, moisture ingress, or electrical issues. A failing unit can lead to:
• Parking brake that fails to engage or disengage
• Warning lights or EPB fault messages on the dash
