The OE MATCH Guide Rail is a engine timing component designed to guide and support the timing chain on compatible Porsche engines. This precision-engineered guide rail maintains the correct timing chain path while working in conjunction with the chain tensioner to minimise chain movement, reduce vibration and ensure accurate valve timing.
Fits:
- Porsche 957 Cayenne 3.6L 2007-10

Diagram Ref No 13
The guide rail is designed to withstand continuous contact with the timing chain, elevated engine temperatures, engine oil exposure and repeated thermal cycling. Precision-engineered for OE MATCH replacement, it provides correct fitment and dependable long-term performance during engine repairs, timing chain replacement or complete engine rebuilds.
What This Product Does:
- Guides the timing chain along its correct operating path.
- Maintains correct timing chain alignment.
- Works with the chain tensioner to control chain movement.
- Reduces timing chain vibration and operating noise.
- Minimises wear on the timing chain and sprockets.
- Supports accurate camshaft and crankshaft timing.
- Forms an essential part of the engine timing assembly.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Rattling noise from the timing chain area, especially during cold starts.
- Increased timing chain noise while driving.
- Engine management or check engine warning light.
- Timing-related fault codes.
- Rough idle or reduced engine performance.
- Visible wear grooves or cracks on the guide rail.
- Broken or missing guide rail material.
- Accelerated timing chain wear.
- Timing chain slack caused by worn guides.
- Severe engine damage if guide failure allows the timing chain to jump timing.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The timing chain guide rail is subjected to constant contact with the timing chain while operating under high engine speeds, continuous oil lubrication and elevated temperatures. Over time, the guide surface naturally wears, while the composite material can become brittle, crack or break due to age and repeated thermal cycling.
- A worn or damaged guide rail can allow excessive timing chain movement, increasing chain noise and accelerating wear of the chain, sprockets and tensioner. In severe cases, guide rail failure can cause the timing chain to lose correct tension or jump timing, potentially resulting in extensive internal engine damage.

What This Product Does:
- The timing chain tensioner is a hydraulic (typically oil-fed) or spring-loaded device that takes up slack in the timing chain drive system. Without correct tension, the chain can “slap”, skip a tooth, or jump, which can cause serious engine timing errors.
- In an engine like the Porsche performance flat-six, accurate timing is critical. The tensioner ensures the chain remains properly seated against the guides/rails and avoids noise, mis-timing, or eventual failure.
- Because modern Porsche engines often use duplex chains, intermediate shafts and high rev operation, a precise tensioner is essential for durability, reliability and performance.
When You Should Consider Replacement:
- You hear rattling, clattering or ticking noises from the timing‐cover area on startup or idle — a classic symptom of a loose timing chain.
- Your car triggers engine fault codes related to camshaft timing, crankshaft–cam correlation, or variable valve timing errors, indicating possible timing chain slack or timing drive issues.
- You are doing major engine work (e.g., timing cover removal, chain/guide replacement) — since the tensioner is integral to the timing chain system, it’s prudent to replace it at the same time for full reliability.
- The engine has high mileage or service history, and you want to pre-emptively safeguard the chain drive.
- On visual inspection (if accessible) you find slack in the timing chain, worn guides/rails, or old/deteriorated tensioner components.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Engine protection: A faulty tensioner can allow the timing chain to jump or skip, which risks piston-to-valve contact, major engine damage, and costly repairs.
- Maintains precise timing & performance: Correct chain tension ensures accurate valve timing, smooth idle, full power delivery and reliability.
- Eliminates noise & improves reliability: Replacing a worn tensioner removes chain-slap noise and helps prevent future failure.
- Cost efficient when engine access is open: Since accessing the tensioner and chain drive requires substantial labour, replacing the tensioner while you’re already there avoids further job later.

Diagram Ref No 8
What This Product Does:
- The “tensioner blade” refers to a guide or support element in the timing chain system that helps apply correct pressure or alignment on the chain, often in combination with a chain tensioner or guide rail.
- When the timing chain runs between the crankshaft and camshafts (or intermediate shafts) it needs not only the chain and tensioner, but also supporting blades/rails/arms to manage movement, reduce slack and keep the chain tracking correctly.
- The tensioner blade part is one of the curated OEM components that helps ensure accurate timing drive by maintaining chain-contact, reducing vibration, guiding the chain — thereby supporting long-term durability and correct engine timing.
When You Should Consider Replacement:
- The timing chain system is being serviced (e.g., chain/guide/tensioner replacement) — as the blade is likely exposed or used in that service path.
- There are timing-related issues: rattling or clattering from the timing cover area, especially on cold start or idle — which can indicate slack or improper chain tracking.
- Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to camshaft/chain timing errors — because a damaged or worn blade may allow chain deflection or mistracking.
- Visual inspection (if accessible) reveals the blade or guide is worn, cracked, missing, or otherwise compromised.
- High mileage or extended service intervals — the supporting components around the chain wear, and a worn blade can expedite chain wear or guide rail wear.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Maintains engine timing integrity: If the blade that guides or supports the chain is compromised, the chain may skip, jump or wear prematurely — leading to timing errors and potential engine damage.
- Reduces noise & prolongs component life: Components like the tensioner blade help damp chain vibration and keep tensioners/rails from excessive wear. Replacing it helps preserve the chain drive system.
- Cost-effective preventive repair: When you already have access to the timing system (front cover off, chain out) replacing components such as the blade prevents future labour for incremental failures.
