Diagram Ref No 4
As a critical part of the transmission mounting system, the bush absorbs drivetrain movement, reduces the transfer of vibration into the cabin and helps maintain correct gearbox alignment under acceleration, braking and cornering loads.
What This Product Does:
- Supports and locates the gearbox assembly within the chassis.
- Absorbs drivetrain vibration and shock loads.
- Reduces noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) transmitted to the cabin.
- Maintains correct gearbox alignment during operation.
- Controls drivetrain movement under acceleration and braking.
- Helps protect surrounding transmission mounting components.
- Contributes to smooth vehicle operation and driving comfort.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Excessive drivetrain movement during acceleration or gear changes.
- Clunking or knocking noises from underneath the vehicle.
- Increased vibration felt through the cabin.
- Harshness during take-off or throttle application.
- Gearbox movement visible during inspection.
- Difficulty achieving smooth gear changes.
- Premature wear of surrounding transmission mounts.
- Cracked, split or separated rubber sections.
- Misalignment of drivetrain components.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Gearbox bushes are subjected to constant torque loads, vibration, temperature changes and road impacts throughout their service life. Over time, the bonded rubber material can harden, crack, separate from its metal housing or lose its ability to effectively absorb movement and vibration.
- A worn gearbox bush can allow excessive transmission movement, leading to increased vibration, reduced driving refinement and additional stress on gearbox mounts, driveshafts and other drivetrain components. If left unresolved, continued movement may accelerate wear throughout the transmission mounting system and negatively affect vehicle handling and comfort.
- Replacing a worn bonded rubber bush restores proper drivetrain support, reduces unwanted vibration and helps maintain correct gearbox alignment.
