Always check the required Porsche oil specification and viscosity for the individual model before ordering.
Designed for modern automatic transmissions, this premium
fluid provides excellent wear protection, outstanding resistance to ageing and
oxidation, and consistent shifting performance across a wide range of operating
temperatures.
Its exceptionally high viscosity index helps maintain reliable lubrication and hydraulic performance during both cold starts and high-temperature operation, contributing to smooth and precise gear changes.
Top Tec ATF 1800 R is suitable for a wide range of automatic transmissions manufactured by companies such as ZF and Aisin Warner, where the specified fluid requirements match LIQUI MOLY's recommendations.
These transmissions are used across numerous vehicle manufacturers, including Porsche, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Volvo.
The fluid's advanced formulation also supports extended transmission oil change intervals where permitted by the vehicle or transmission manufacturer.
What Does Top Tec ATF 1800 R Do?
Automatic transmission fluid performs several important functions within an automatic gearbox.
Unlike conventional manual gearbox oil, ATF must lubricate internal components while also supporting hydraulic control, clutch operation and heat management.
LIQUI MOLY Top Tec ATF 1800 R is formulated to:
- Lubricate gears, bearings and other moving transmission components
- Support smooth and consistent automatic gear changes
- Provide suitable friction characteristics for compatible transmission designs
- Help protect internal components against wear
- Resist oxidation and fluid deterioration
- Maintain stable viscosity across changing operating temperatures
- Help prevent foam formation Protect internal components against corrosion
- Support reliable operation during cold starts and high-temperature driving
Its low-viscosity formulation is particularly suited to automatic transmissions designed to operate with modern low-viscosity fluids.
Why Is High-Quality Automatic Transmission Fluid Important?
Automatic transmissions rely on the correct fluid specification to operate efficiently and reliably.
The transmission fluid must provide lubrication while maintaining the correct hydraulic and friction characteristics for the gearbox's internal clutches and control systems.
Using an unsuitable or degraded fluid can affect gear selection, shifting behaviour and long-term transmission durability.
Top Tec ATF 1800 R combines modern additive technology with excellent temperature stability to help maintain the intended performance of compatible automatic gearboxes.
Why Does Automatic Transmission Fluid Deteriorate?
Automatic transmission fluid is exposed to repeated heating, cooling, pressure and mechanical stress throughout its service life.
Over time, these conditions can cause the fluid to lose some of its original properties.
Common causes of deterioration include:
- Prolonged exposure to high operating temperatures
- Oxidation and ageing of the fluid
- Contamination from normal transmission wear
- Repeated heavy-load or stop-start driving
- Incorrect transmission fluid levels
- Moisture or external contamination
- Extended service intervals
- Use of an incorrect fluid specification
Deteriorated transmission fluid may contribute to inconsistent shifting and increased wear within the gearbox.
When Should Automatic Transmission Fluid Be Replaced?
Automatic transmission fluid should be replaced according to the vehicle or transmission manufacturer's service recommendations.
The correct replacement interval depends on the gearbox design, vehicle usage and operating conditions.
A transmission fluid inspection or service may be required
if the vehicle experiences:
- Rough or inconsistent gear changes
- Delayed gear engagement
- Transmission overheating
- Unusual gearbox noise
- Evidence of fluid leakage
- Contaminated or degraded transmission fluid
- A scheduled automatic transmission service
These symptoms can also indicate mechanical, hydraulic or electronic faults, so changing the fluid alone may not resolve the problem.
LIQUI MOLY Recommended Specifications & Applications
LIQUI MOLY recommends Top Tec ATF 1800 R for vehicles or
transmission assemblies requiring the following specifications or original
equipment fluid references:
- Dexron VI
- BMW M-1375.4
- BMW 83 22 0 142 516
- BMW 83 22 2 152 426

- Volkswagen VW G 055 540
- Volkswagen VW G 060 162
These are manufacturer recommendations for applications requiring the stated specifications or original fluid references. They should not be interpreted as separate formal manufacturer approvals.
Always confirm the exact transmission fluid specification before use.
Porsche Automatic Transmission Applications
LIQUI MOLY identifies Porsche among the vehicle manufacturers whose automatic transmissions may be suitable for Top Tec ATF 1800 R.
However, Porsche has used several different automatic transmission designs and fluid specifications across its model range.
Suitability must therefore be determined by the exact gearbox and required transmission fluid specification rather than the Porsche model name alone.
Top Tec ATF 1800 R should only be used where its published recommendations match the fluid specification required by the vehicle or transmission manufacturer.
It must not be assumed suitable for all Porsche Tiptronic, PDK or other automatic transmissions.
Application & Service Instructions
Shake the container well before use.
Always follow the transmission or vehicle manufacturer's instructions regarding the correct fluid specification, filling procedure, operating temperature and fluid level.
For optimum performance, LIQUI MOLY recommends using Top Tec ATF 1800 R without mixing it with other transmission fluids.
During a transmission service, inspect the transmission for leaks and replace filters, seals or other service components where required.
Some automatic transmissions require a specific filling temperature and diagnostic procedure to establish the correct fluid level.
Professional servicing is recommended where specialist filling equipment or diagnostic tools are required.
