Fits:
- Porsche 911 S / T/E:M 1969-72
As the driver's primary physical connection to the steering system, the steering wheel is important for vehicle control, steering input and driving confidence. Its classic RS-style appearance also makes it a prominent part of the vehicle's interior.
What This Product Does:
The steering wheel allows the driver to transmit steering inputs to the vehicle's steering system.
Turning the wheel operates the steering mechanism, changing the direction of the front wheels and allowing the driver to control the vehicle's direction.
A correctly installed steering wheel provides:
- Direct driver steering input
- Secure hand positioning
- Controlled steering movement
- Comfortable grip
- Consistent steering fee
- lImproved driver confidence
- A key visual element of the interior
The 380mm diameter also contributes to the steering wheel's period-style proportions and classic driving environment.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Steering wheels are subject to constant physical contact and can deteriorate significantly over time.
Common signs of wear or damage include:
- Worn or polished leather
- Cracked leather
- Splitting or peeling leather
- Loose leather covering
- Discoloured areas
- Heavy scratches or scuffs
- Damaged stitching
- Loss of grip
- Deformed rim
- Bent steering wheel structure
- Cracks around mounting areas
- Excessive movement at the mounting point
- Steering wheel sitting incorrectly
- Damage caused by previous removal or installation
Any suspected structural damage should be investigated immediately.
Why Replacement Matters:
Replacing a worn, damaged or unsuitable steering wheel helps restore an important driver-control interface while improving the interior's appearance.
Replacement can help:
- Restore a secure gripping surface
- Improve steering-wheel feel
- Replace cracked or deteriorated leather
- Correct damage to the wheel itself
- Restore a clean interior appearance
- Remove inappropriate previous modifications
- Restore period-style character
- Complement a classic Porsche interior
- Provide an RS-inspired appearance
If the existing steering wheel has structural damage or insecure mounting, replacement becomes a safety consideration rather than simply a cosmetic improvement.
