Aluminium Intake Plenum Kit. Porsche 981 Cayman / Boxster 2.7L DFI ❭ IPDKIT81482-27
- Porsche Boxster 981 2.7L 2012-16
- Porsche Cayman 2.7L 981 2013-16
IPD aluminium intake plenum kit for Porsche 981 Cayman and Boxster 2.7L DFI models. This Competition kit combines the plenum with an included 82mm throttle body and a matching silicone intake hose.
Fits:
- Porsche Boxster 981 2.7L 2012-16
-
Porsche Cayman 2.7L 981 2013-16
What This Product Does
The intake plenum forms the air-distribution connection between the throttle assembly and the engine's intake runners. This Porsche 981 2.7L DFI intake plenum kit replaces the original distributor as part of a planned induction modification, pairing an aluminium body with the larger throttle assembly.
Functions
- Routes incoming air towards the intake runners.
- Connects the intake system to the 82mm throttle assembly.
- Provides a matching silicone hose connection for the revised installation.
Technical Details
- Aluminium plenum construction with a dimpled internal surface.
- Competition configuration using an 82mm throttle body in place of the original 74mm unit.
- The supplied kit includes the 82mm throttle body.
- Custom silicone intake hose matched to the larger throttle connection.
- The supplied technical context covers 2.7ltr, engine-specific suitability must be checked.
Symptoms of Fault
Intake leaks or damaged connections can accompany an irregular idle, hesitation or inconsistent engine response. These symptoms do not establish that the plenum is faulty: inspect the hoses, seals and associated intake connections before selecting replacement components.
Why Replacement Matters
A Porsche 981 Cayman or Boxster aluminium plenum kit should be selected as part of a coordinated intake installation. Matching the plenum, throttle assembly and hose connections is important; changing induction hardware does not remedy an underlying mechanical fault.
FAQs
Is an 82mm throttle body included?
Yes. The supplied kit specification includes this component.
What needs checking during installation?
Inspect seals, hose connections, vacuum fittings and clearance around the assembly. Confirm any additional consumables required for the work.
Does replacing the plenum resolve rough running?
Not necessarily. Establish whether the cause is an intake leak, ignition issue or another mechanical fault before replacing parts.
Check fitment for your specific vehicle (model, year, engine) before ordering.

What Does the Throttle Body Do?
The throttle body contains a circular butterfly valve that opens and closes to regulate airflow into the engine.
When the accelerator is pressed, the engine management system electronically controls the throttle body, opening the valve to increase airflow and closing it when less engine power is required.
A correctly functioning throttle body helps:
- Control engine intake airflow
- Maintain a smooth, stable idle
- Provide responsive acceleration
- Maintain consistent engine performance
- Support accurate engine management
Why Do Throttle Bodies Fail?
Throttle bodies are exposed to heat, vibration and contamination throughout their working life. Oil vapour and carbon deposits can accumulate around the throttle plate, while the electronic actuator and internal position sensors can deteriorate with age.
Common causes include:
- Carbon and oil deposits
- Electronic actuator wear
- Throttle position sensor faults
- Electrical motor failure
- Damaged wiring or connectors
- Heat and vibration
- General age-related deterioration
A contaminated throttle body may sometimes be cleaned successfully, providing its electronic components remain serviceable.
When Should the Throttle Body Be Replaced?
Replacement should be considered if:
- Idle becomes unstable or fluctuates
- Throttle response becomes slow or inconsistent
- The engine hesitates during acceleration
- The vehicle enters limp-home mode
- Throttle-related fault codes are stored
- Cleaning does not restore correct operation
- Diagnostic testing identifies an internal fault
- The throttle plate sticks or fails to operate correctly
Similar symptoms can be caused by intake leaks, wiring or other engine management components, so correct diagnosis is recommended before replacement.
Electronic throttle bodies play an important role in Porsche engine management and intake systems.
As Porsche models age, contamination, actuator wear and electronic faults can lead to poor throttle response, unstable idle, hesitation and engine management warnings.
When diagnosing a Porsche throttle body fault, the intake pipework, electrical connections and associated engine management components should also be checked before replacement.
