Originally, Porsche did not supply the indicator lens
separately from the complete rear light unit. Thanks to an innovative
development, these replacement lenses allow the original lamp assemblies to be
refurbished, offering a far more economical solution while retaining the
factory housings.
Installation Tip
The original indicator lenses are permanently bonded to the rear light housing, but they can be removed with care.
A proven method is to place the complete lamp unit in a conventional oven at approximately 100°C for 7-8 minutes to soften the adhesive before carefully removing the old lens. Alternatively, a soldering iron can be used to soften the welded edge.
When installing the replacement lens, ensure a continuous watertight seal around the entire perimeter to prevent future moisture ingress.
Ideal for restoration projects, accident repairs or simply refreshing tired rear lights, these OE Match lenses provide a factory-style appearance and excellent value.
What Do the Indicator Lenses Do?
The indicator lenses protect the internal lamp assembly while allowing the amber indicator light to remain bright and clearly visible. They also seal the lamp against water, dust and road debris, helping to protect the bulb, reflector and electrical components.
Why Do Indicator Lenses Fail?
Over time, the original lenses deteriorate due to:
- UV exposure
- Stone chips and road debris
- Cracking from minor impacts
- Surface scratches and clouding
- Heat and weathering
- Water ingress through damaged lenses
Replacing damaged lenses restores the appearance of the rear lights while maintaining maximum visibility and helping prevent moisture damage inside the lamp unit.
When Should They Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended if the lenses are:
- Cracked or chipped
- Faded or discoloured
- Scratched or cloudy
- Allowing condensation into the light unit
- Damaged during accident repairs
- Being renewed as part of a Porsche 964 restoration
Replacing both lenses together ensures a consistent appearance across the rear of the vehicle.
Porsche 964 Rear Lighting Restoration Parts
As Porsche 964 models mature, rear indicator lenses often become faded, cracked or damaged while the lamp housings remain in good condition. This OE Match lens kit provides an economical way to refurbish the original rear light assemblies, preserving the factory appearance without the cost of replacing complete lamp units.
Perfect for restorations and repairs, these replacement lenses help keep your Porsche looking original while maintaining safe and effective rear lighting.
Benefits of Replacing the Indicator Lenses
- Restores bright, clear indicator visibility
- Refreshes the rear light appearance
- Reuses the original lamp assemblies
- More economical than replacing complete lights
- Helps prevent moisture entering the lamp units
- Ideal for restorations and accident repairs
