What This Product Does
HT means high tension: the voltage used by the ignition system to generate a spark. The leads carry this electrical pulse towards the plugs, where it ignites the mixture within each cylinder. Their insulation helps keep the voltage within the intended electrical path.
Functions
- Conduct ignition pulses to the spark plugs.
- Insulate the high-voltage conductors.
- Provide connections between ignition components.
Technical Details
- Product type: ignition HT lead set.
- Brand: OE Match.
- Listed engine capacity: 2.0L.
- Carrera GT engine identification: M31.50.
Symptoms of Fault
- Uneven idling or hesitation during acceleration.
- Misfiring when the engine is loaded or conditions are damp.
- Insulation that has split, stiffened or developed tracking marks.
- Corroded terminals or poorly seated connection boots.
- Resistance measurements that indicate conductor deterioration.
Why Replacement Matters
Age, engine heat and contamination can damage lead insulation or electrical connections. Once deterioration is confirmed, replacing the affected lead set addresses an identified source of ignition leakage or excessive resistance. Check the plugs, distributor connections and cable routing as part of the same repair; similar running symptoms can have other causes.
FAQs
Could one faulty cable affect only one cylinder?
Yes. An individual lead can deteriorate independently, although the remaining cables may have experienced similar ageing.
Is a resistance measurement enough to confirm condition?
No. It can reveal conductor faults, but may not expose insulation leakage. Include inspection of the insulation, terminals and boots.
Must the spark plugs also be changed?
Inspect their condition and service history first. Renew worn plugs where required rather than assuming that replacing cables alone will resolve every misfire.
