What This Product Does
HT means high tension: these cables conduct the ignition system’s high voltage to the spark plugs, where it initiates combustion. Insulation around each conductor helps contain that voltage along its intended path.
Functions
- Conducts ignition voltage to the plugs.
- Insulates the electrical path between ignition connections.
- Connects the ignition components through dedicated leads.
Technical Details
- Supplied quantity: five cables.
- Application identifiers include XJ, XK and M31.03; refer to the individual fitment entries.
Symptoms of Fault
- Uneven running or misfiring during acceleration.
- Starting difficulties or hesitation.
- Ignition problems that worsen in wet conditions.
- Split, hardened or otherwise damaged insulation.
- Loose connections or corroded terminals.
- Evidence of electrical tracking around cables or boots.
Why Replacement Matters
Heat, vibration and contamination can deteriorate ignition cables. Damaged insulation, degraded conductors or corroded connections can interrupt the intended electrical path. Renewing leads with a confirmed fault addresses that deterioration; inspect the plugs, distributor connections and cable routing at the same time rather than assuming every misfire originates in the leads.
FAQs
How many cables are included?
The supplied set contains five cables.
Can one faulty lead affect a single cylinder?
Yes. A defective individual cable can cause a cylinder-specific ignition problem, although other ignition or fuelling faults can produce similar symptoms.
Does a resistance test confirm cable condition?
A multimeter can identify some conductor faults, but a resistance reading alone does not establish whether the insulation remains sound.
Should the spark plugs also be changed?
Inspect their condition and service history. Replace worn plugs as required rather than assuming that new plugs are necessary whenever leads are renewed.
