Diagram Ref No 3
Designed for the eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission, this clutch assembly plays a central role in transferring engine power through the gearbox while allowing rapid, controlled gear changes.
Manufactured to Porsche's original specifications, it provides a factory replacement for a worn or defective clutch coupling during transmission repair or refurbishment.
What Does It Do?
The PDK clutch coupling controls the transfer of engine power into the dual-clutch transmission.
Unlike a conventional automatic gearbox, the Porsche PDK system uses two clutches to manage different gear groups. This allows the next gear to be prepared before the current gear is disengaged.
During a gear change, one clutch releases while the other engages, providing extremely fast shifts with minimal interruption to power delivery.
In E-Hybrid applications, the transmission operates as part of the vehicle's combined petrol-electric drivetrain, where accurate clutch control is particularly important.
Why Is It Important?
The clutch coupling is essential for smooth acceleration, responsive gear changes and efficient transmission operation.
A worn or malfunctioning clutch assembly can affect how effectively power is transferred through the gearbox.
Possible symptoms include:
- Jerky or hesitant gear changes
- Juddering when pulling away
- Delayed engagement of drive or reverse
- Excessive clutch slipping
- Unusual vibration during acceleration
- Transmission warning messages
- Reduced gearbox performance
These symptoms may also result from hydraulic, electronic or other internal transmission faults and should be properly diagnosed.
Why Do PDK Clutch Couplings Fail?
PDK clutch assemblies are engineered for demanding operating conditions but can deteriorate through mechanical wear and repeated heat cycles.
Common causes include:
- Gradual wear of the clutch friction surfaces
- Excessive heat generated during repeated clutch engagement
- Incorrect transmission oil condition or servicing
- Internal hydraulic pressure problems
- Mechanical damage within the clutch assembly
- Prolonged operation with existing gearbox faults
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended when diagnostic testing confirms excessive clutch wear, slipping or internal mechanical damage.
A defective coupling may also require replacement during a PDK gearbox overhaul or following transmission damage.
Before replacing the assembly, the gearbox control system, oil condition and associated transmission components should be inspected to establish the cause of the fault.
Why Choose Genuine Porsche?
Genuine Porsche transmission components are manufactured to the original factory specifications for the relevant gearbox assembly.
Using the correct original clutch coupling helps preserve the intended operation of the PDK transmission, including controlled clutch engagement and smooth gear selection.
It is particularly important when repairing sophisticated Panamera GTS and E-Hybrid drivetrains.
Installation Notes
Replacement requires specialist knowledge of Porsche PDK transmissions and the appropriate workshop equipment.
The gearbox must be dismantled sufficiently to access and replace the clutch assembly.
Inspect the surrounding transmission components, seals and hydraulic systems before reassembly.
Use the specified Porsche transmission fluid and follow the correct filling, temperature checking and calibration procedures.
Diagnostic equipment may be required to perform clutch adaptation and transmission control system checks after installation.

PDK Clutch Couplings
The Porsche Panamera 971 GTS and E-Hybrid models use advanced eight-speed PDK transmissions designed to provide rapid gear changes, efficient power transfer and refined driving characteristics.
Genuine Porsche clutch coupling is an original replacement assembly for applicable Panamera PDK gearboxes. It provides a solution when internal clutch wear or mechanical failure requires replacement of the transmission clutch coupling.
Maintaining the correct PDK clutch assembly is important for smooth transmission engagement, responsive acceleration and reliable gearbox operation, particularly in the high-performance and hybrid Panamera drivetrain configurations.
