This OE match gear lever knob is a direct replacement for the original Porsche factory-installed shift knob used in early 915 gearbox-equipped 911 models. Designed with period-correct styling, it features the classic 4-speed gear pattern embedded on the top surface.
Fits:
Porsche 911 1972 - 1977
Porsche 911 1965 - 1971
Porsche 914-4/6 1970 - 1976
This gear knob provides the driver with a comfortable and secure grip for shifting gears. It clearly displays the gear pattern, ensuring correct gear selection while enhancing the overall driving feel and control of the vehicle. Gear knobs are a key interface component in manual transmissions, directly influencing shift precision and ergonomics.
Function
• Provides ergonomic grip for smooth gear shifting
• Displays correct 4-speed shift pattern
• Ensures precise and controlled gear selection
• Enhances driver connection to the transmission
• Maintains original interior appearance
Over time, gear knobs can become worn, faded, cracked, or loose, reducing grip and diminishing the driving experience. A damaged or incorrect knob can also obscure the gear pattern, increasing the risk of mis-shifting. Replacing it restores proper ergonomics, improves control, and preserves the original look of the vehicle’s interior.
When to replace
• Gear knob is worn, cracked, or faded
• Loose fit or movement on the gear lever
• Gear pattern is illegible or worn off
• During interior restoration or refurbishment
• Incorrect or non-original knob fitted

The Classic Gear Knob from Function-First Performance is designed to reconnect drivers to their vehicles.
Factory gear knobs contribute to sloppy and vague gear changes due to their rubber and plastic construction. To remedy this, our Classic Gear Knob is machined from solid billet aluminum for a superior shifter feel, ensuring that all shifting effort is transferred to the gear lever.
The 2-inch diameter knob fits securely in the palm, with the circumferential cutout providing dexterity and enhancing grip. The base shaft is machined specifically to fit Porsche’s rectangular shift lever and attaches securely via high-hold set screws, entirely hidden from view with the standard height shaft. The OEM shift boot integrates seamlessly at the base for factory-like fit and finish. If your current shift knob setup has an integrated 1-piece shift knob/boot (pre-997 Porsche models), you can cut the boot off to use with the Classic Shift Knob.
Aluminium - machined from a solid billet and anodized, this knob offers added weight for less notchy shifts
Shift pattern engraving with paint-fill is also offered for an added OEM look.
PLEASE NOTE: Fitment is for Manual Transmission vehicles only. The OEM shift boot is shown for illustrative purposes and is not included.
Purchase price for the "CLASSIC SHIFT KNOB" includes only 1 shaft, 1 knob, and mounting hardware
