Information
Front suspension headlamp levelling sensor.
This Headlight Level Sensor is a replacement electronic sensor engineered to replicate the original Porsche ride height/level sensing component used in the headlight levelling system. It is designed for direct installation in compatible Porsche 911 (991), Boxster (982) and Cayman (982) models to work with automatic headlight levelling systems.
Fits:
Porsche 718 Boxster - 2017 Onwards
Porsche 718 Cayman - 2017 Onwards
Porsche 991.1 / 991.2 - 2012 to 2019
Porsche 991 turbo - 2017 to 2020
Diagram ref no 17
The headlight level sensor detects changes in the vehicle’s suspension height and sends accurate position data to the headlight control module. This enables the automatic headlight levelling function, allowing the headlights to adjust their beam angle based on load and vehicle pitch - helping maintain optimal illumination and preventing glare to other road users.
Mounted to the front suspension/ride height linkage, the sensor reads positional changes and converts them into electronic signals. The control module uses this data to raise or lower the headlight beam dynamically, ensuring consistent light alignment regardless of load, acceleration, or inclination. It supports safer night driving by keeping beams properly aligned.
A faulty headlight level sensor can lead to inconsistent beam aim, poor night visibility, dashboard warnings, or disabled levelling functions. Replacing a worn or failed sensor restores correct feedback to the headlight control system, maintaining proper beam alignment and ensuring safe, predictable nighttime lighting performance.
When to replace:
• Headlights won’t auto-adjust when load changes
• Levelling warning or fault codes on the instrument cluster
• Beam angle appears too high or low under load
• After suspension work / sensor linkage removal
• As preventive maintenance when replacing related sensors or heads

This information enables the vehicle's control systems to make precise adjustments, helping maintain optimum handling, ride comfort, stability and lighting performance under varying driving conditions.
What This Product Does:
- Monitors rear axle ride height and suspension position.
- Provides real-time input to suspension and chassis control systems.
- Supports adaptive suspension and ride height management functions.
- Assists automatic headlamp levelling systems.
- Helps maintain correct vehicle balance and stance.
- Supports optimum handling and driving stability.
- Contributes to ride comfort and suspension performance.
- Ensures accurate operation of electronic chassis and safety systems.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Suspension or chassis warning lights illuminated on the dashboard.
- Ride height control fault messages.
- Uneven vehicle stance or ride height.
- Vehicle leaning to one side.
- Suspension failing to adjust correctly.
- Incorrect headlamp beam alignment.
- Reduced ride comfort and suspension performance.
- Fault codes relating to level sensors or chassis systems.
- Intermittent suspension system operation.
- Physical damage, corrosion or wear of the sensor linkage.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Rear axle level sensors operate in a demanding environment and are constantly exposed to water, dirt, road salt, vibration and continuous suspension movement. Over time, sensor internals, electrical connectors and linkage mechanisms can deteriorate, resulting in inaccurate ride height readings or complete sensor failure.
- A faulty level sensor can prevent suspension and chassis control systems from functioning correctly, leading to compromised ride quality, handling performance and vehicle stability. It can also affect automatic headlamp levelling and place additional strain on related suspension components, potentially increasing maintenance costs.
- Replacing a worn or defective rear axle level sensor restores accurate suspension monitoring and ensures the correct operation of the vehicle's advanced chassis systems. A genuine Porsche replacement provides factory-correct fitment, precise calibration and long-term reliability, helping maintain the comfort, safety and dynamic performance expected from your Porsche.

Diagram Ref No 23
Mounted to the rear suspension assembly, the level sensor continuously monitors suspension movement and transmits real-time ride height data to the vehicle's electronic control units.
