The OE Match Exhaust Rubber Mounting is a replacement flexible exhaust support used on selected classic Porsche transaxle models.
Fits:
Diagram Ref No 15
The rubber mounting forms part of the exhaust support system, helping suspend the exhaust securely from the vehicle while isolating vibration and allowing a controlled amount of movement as the exhaust heats, cools and moves with the drivetrain.
A healthy exhaust mounting helps keep the exhaust correctly positioned beneath the vehicle while reducing vibration and noise transferred into the body structure.
What This Product Does:
The exhaust system becomes hot during operation and expands as temperature increases.
It also moves slightly in response to:
- Engine and drivetrain movement
- Road vibration
- Suspension movement
- Thermal expansion
- Changes in vehicle load
The rubber exhaust mounting provides a flexible connection between the exhaust system and the vehicle structure.
Its functions include:
- Supporting the weight of the exhaust
- Maintaining correct exhaust positioning
- Absorbing vibration
- Reducing noise transmitted into the chassis
- Allowing controlled exhaust movement
- Reducing stress on exhaust pipes and joints
- Helping maintain clearance from surrounding components
- Preventing excessive exhaust movement over bumps
Without compliant rubber mountings, vibration and movement could place additional stress on rigid exhaust components.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Common signs of a deteriorated exhaust rubber mounting include:
Some exhaust noise can also be caused by loose heat shields, broken brackets or damaged internal muffler components, so the complete mounting system should be inspected.
Why Replacement Matters:
A worn exhaust mount may appear to be a minor issue, but continued use can allow excessive movement of relatively heavy exhaust components.
This may contribute to:
- Cracked exhaust pipes
- Failed welds
- Damaged exhaust joints
- Loose clamps
- Broken mounting brackets
- Exhaust contact with the vehicle body
- Increased vibration and rattling
- Poor exhaust-tip alignment
- Premature failure of neighbouring mountings
Replacing a deteriorated mount restores proper support and reduces unnecessary stress on the rest of the exhaust system.
