What This Product Does
The tensioning roller supports the toothed camshaft belt and helps maintain the tension required for consistent camshaft and crankshaft synchronisation. It forms part of the camshaft and valve timing assembly.
Functions
- Guides the camshaft timing belt through its operating path
- Maintains suitable belt tension
- Supports accurate mechanical valve timing
- Allows the belt to travel smoothly around the timing assembly
- Helps limit belt movement, slipping and irregular wear
Technical Details
- Product type: camshaft belt tensioning roller
- Reference number: 026109243F
- Outer diameter: 72 mm
- Width: 24.5 mm
- Diagram ref no 14.
Symptoms of Fault
- Squealing or chirping noises that change with engine speed
- Rumbling or whining from the timing-belt area
- Visible pulley movement or wobble
- Belt dust around the timing cover or pulleys
- Cracking, glazing or uneven wear on the camshaft belt
- A roller that feels rough, tight or loose when inspected
Why Replacement Matters
A worn bearing or damaged tensioning surface can prevent the camshaft belt from running smoothly and holding the correct tension. This may accelerate belt wear or allow timing to become disturbed. The roller should be inspected when renewing the camshaft belt or carrying out engine work, with the surrounding pulley, fastener, washer, bearing sleeve and belt condition checked at the same time.
FAQs
- Should the roller be checked when replacing the belt?
Yes. The roller bearing and running surface are wear points and should be inspected whenever the camshaft belt is renewed. - Can excessive belt tension cause problems?
Yes. Incorrect tension may shorten roller-bearing and belt life, so installation and adjustment should follow the appropriate workshop procedure. - How can suitability be confirmed?
