Information
Engine bay sound proofing damping mat
This OE Match engine bay sound proofing damping mat is a direct replacement for the original Porsche insulation panel used in the engine compartment of 964-generation 911 models. Mounted to the underside of the engine lid or engine bay bulkhead depending on application, it helps absorb engine noise and vibration while also providing thermal insulation.
Fits:
Porsche 964 1989 - 1994
Diagram ref no 13
This sound proofing mat absorbs engine noise and vibration generated within the engine compartment, reducing sound transmission into the cabin. It also helps insulate against engine heat, improving comfort and maintaining a cleaner engine bay appearance.
Function
• Reduces engine noise and vibration entering the cabin
• Provides thermal insulation within the engine compartment
• Helps maintain factory refinement and driving comfort
• Protects surrounding panels from heat exposure
• Restores original engine bay appearance and insulation performance
Position: Engine compartment / engine lid insulation area
OE reference: 96455628103
Cross references: 96455628100, 96455628101
Typically 1 required per vehicle
Original engine bay insulation mats commonly deteriorate over time due to heat, oil vapour, and age. As the foam breaks down, it can crumble into the engine bay, reduce sound insulation effectiveness, and create an untidy appearance. Replacing the mat restores proper acoustic insulation, improves engine bay presentation, and helps maintain cabin comfort.
When to replace
• Original insulation foam is crumbling or deteriorating
• Increased engine noise inside cabin
• Visible sagging or separation of insulation material
• During engine bay restoration or repainting
• Heat damage or contamination from oil and debris
