This part replaces earlier Porsche numbers 982501203C, 982501203D, and 982501203J.
The rear drive shaft transfers engine torque from the transmission or rear differential to the wheel hub, enabling the driven wheels to propel the vehicle. Integrated CV joints allow smooth power delivery even as the suspension articulates, maintaining consistent traction during acceleration, cornering, and changes in road surface.
Function:
• Transfers rotational force from the drivetrain to the rear wheel
• Accommodates suspension movement via constant-velocity joints
• Maintains smooth, low-vibration power delivery
• Supports stable handling and drivetrain reliability
Worn CV joints or damaged boots can cause clicking noises, vibration under load, grease leakage, and uneven power delivery. Replacing a failing axle restores smooth drivetrain operation and helps protect surrounding components such as wheel bearings and differentials.
When to replace:
• Clicking or knocking noises during acceleration or turning
• Vibration or shudder under load
• Torn or leaking CV boots
