Information
Distributor dust cover is a small but essential component that sits inside the distributor, between the rotor arm and the cap. Its main role is to protect the distributor’s internal components from dust, dirt, and moisture while ensuring that the ignition system delivers a clean, strong spark to your engine.
Over time, these covers can become brittle, crack, or warp due to heat cycles and age. When this happens, debris and moisture may enter the distributor, leading to misfires, poor running, difficulty starting, or even complete ignition failure. On classic Porsche 911, 964, and 993 models, this is a particularly common issue because of the age of the vehicles and the harsh environment inside the engine bay. Replacing the dust cover is a simple but important maintenance step to keep your ignition system protected and working reliably. If you are already changing your distributor cap and rotor arm, it’s strongly recommended to renew the dust cover at the same time to ensure long-term performance.
