Rubber cover/cover for the door contact switch (night light or door lock switch) used in classic Porsche 911, 964, and 993 models. Protects the switch underneath from moisture, dirt, and wear while maintaining the correct appearance and fitment of the original equipment. Manufactured to Porsche specifications.
Fits:
Porsche 911 1965 - 1989
Porsche 964 1990 - 1994
Porsche 993 1994 - 1997
Diagram ref no 10
• Position on Vehicle: Mounted over the door-contact switch (courtesy-lamp switch) at the door frame or body edge, covering the exposed switch mechanism.
• Applications: Ideal when the original rubber cap has cracked, gone missing, faded or is no longer sealing the switch properly - preserving correct function of door-open lamp circuit and maintaining clean appearance.
Although small, this rubber cap plays a key role in protecting the door-contact switch from moisture and contaminants, which ensures the courtesy-lamp, door-ajar indicator and electrical circuit remain reliable. A degraded or missing cap can allow water ingress, leading to corrosion of the switch, erratic lamp behaviour or eventual failure. Installing a correct replacement ensures dust-free operation, preserves your wiring and maintains the exact fit and finish Porsche intended.
When and why to replace:
• The rubber cap is cracked, swollen, melted, missing or no longer seals the switch properly.
• You notice malfunctioning door-ajar lights, erratic courtesy-lamp behaviour or corrosion at the switch.
• During door trim removal or restoration when access is already provided.

Mounted in the door opening, this switch detects when the door is opened or closed, helping control the interior courtesy lighting and associated electrical functions where fitted.
Over time, the original switch can become worn, corroded or unreliable, causing interior lights to stop working or remain illuminated.
What Does It Do?
The door contact switch operates when the door opens or closes, completing or interrupting an electrical circuit.
It is primarily used to activate the interior courtesy light when a door is opened and switch it off when the door is closed.
Why Does It Fail?
Common causes of failure include:
- Corrosion on electrical contacts
- Dirt and moisture entering the switch
- Wear to the spring-loaded mechanism
- Damaged electrical connections
- Age-related deterioration
When Should It Be Replaced?
Replace the switch if you notice:
- Interior lights failing to illuminate when opening the door
- Courtesy lights remaining on with the door closed
- Intermittent interior lighting
- A sticking or damaged switch plunger
- Visible corrosion or damaged terminals
Checks & Diagnosis
Before replacement, inspect the switch connections and wiring. Check that the plunger moves freely and test electrical continuity as the switch is operated.
Installation Notes
Disconnect the electrical connection before removing the original switch. Inspect the wiring terminals for corrosion and ensure the replacement switch operates correctly when the door opens and closes.
