The Fabspeed HJS German Sport Catalytic Converters are high-flow replacement catalysts designed specifically for the 2011 Porsche 997.2 GT2 RS.
Fits:
- Porsche 997 MKII GT2 RS 2011-13
Using premium 200-cell HJS HD Sport catalytic converters, the system is engineered to reduce exhaust restriction compared with the original catalysts while continuing to provide catalytic emissions treatment.
The catalysts are integrated into high-quality 14–16 gauge CNC mandrel-bent T304 stainless-steel pipework, providing excellent resistance to exhaust heat, corrosion and repeated thermal cycling.
Designed as a direct replacement for the factory catalytic converters, this upgrade is intended to improve exhaust flow, throttle response and exhaust character without converting the vehicle to a catalyst-delete configuration.
What This Product Does:
Catalytic converters form part of the vehicle's emissions-control and exhaust system.
Their primary purpose is to chemically convert harmful exhaust pollutants into less harmful gases before they leave the tailpipes. However, exhaust gases must also pass through the catalyst substrate, meaning its design can influence exhaust restriction.
The Fabspeed HJS Sport Catalytic Converters are designed to:
- Reduce exhaust restriction compared with more restrictive catalysts
- Improve exhaust gas flow
- Support improved throttle response
- Allow the turbochargers to evacuate exhaust gases more efficiently
- Provide catalytic emissions treatment
- Produce a stronger performance exhaust note
- Maintain a catted exhaust configuration
- Replace ageing, damaged or restricted original catalytic converters
- Provide durable stainless-steel construction
Fabspeed states that the 200-cell HJS EMITEC catalysts can flow up to approximately 90–93% of a straight pipe in many applications, while retaining catalytic functionality.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
Catalytic converters operate at extremely high temperatures and can deteriorate through age, contamination, physical damage or repeated thermal stress.
Common symptoms of a failing or restricted catalytic converter include:
- Check Engine Light relating to catalyst efficiency
- Reduced engine performance
- Sluggish throttle response
- Increased turbo lag
- Loss of power at higher engine speeds
- Excessive exhaust backpressure
- Metallic rattling from inside the catalyst
- Broken or loose catalyst substrate
- Sulphur or rotten-egg-like exhaust smell
- Unusually high exhaust temperatures
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed emissions testing
- Irregular or restricted exhaust flow
- Excessive heat around the catalytic converter area
- Visible damage or cracking around the catalyst housing
- Black soot around leaking exhaust connections
A damaged catalyst substrate can break apart internally and partially obstruct the exhaust path, significantly increasing restriction.
Why Replacement Matters:
A deteriorated catalytic converter can affect both emissions performance and engine operation.
If the internal catalyst substrate begins to collapse or become blocked, exhaust gases cannot leave the engine as efficiently. On a turbocharged engine such as the GT2 RS, this increased post-turbo restriction can negatively affect throttle response and turbocharger performance.
Excessive restriction can also increase exhaust temperature and thermal stress within the system.
Replacing damaged or restricted catalytic converters helps restore:
- Proper exhaust gas flow
- Reduced exhaust backpressure
- Consistent turbocharger response
- Correct catalytic emissions treatment
- Normal throttle response
- A secure and leak-free exhaust system
Replacement is also important when the catalyst substrate has physically deteriorated, as loose material can continue to break apart and further obstruct the exhaust.

- Porsche 997 MKII GT2 RS 2011-13
The Fabspeed Porsche 997.2 GT2 RS Competition Cat Bypass Pipes are a specialist performance exhaust upgrade developed for the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
Fits:
- Porsche 997 MKII GT2 RS 2011-13
Designed to replace the factory catalytic converters with straight-through stainless steel pipework, these competition bypass pipes provide a less restrictive exhaust path while delivering a louder, more aggressive motorsport-inspired exhaust note.
The Porsche 997.2 GT2 RS is one of the most focused models in the 911 range, featuring a powerful 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine and a lightweight, track-oriented design.
Its factory exhaust system is engineered to balance high performance with emissions control, durability and noise requirements. The catalytic converters form an important part of that system, treating harmful exhaust gases before they exit the vehicle.
For dedicated motorsport applications where a catalytic converter bypass is permitted, Fabspeed developed these competition pipes to replace the original catalytic converter assemblies with direct-flow alternatives.
Manufactured from high-quality 14–16 gauge T304 stainless steel, the pipes use CNC mandrel-bent tubing to maintain smooth bends and consistent internal dimensions.
The assemblies are TIG-welded to provide strong, precisely joined connections capable of withstanding the demanding temperatures and vibration associated with high-performance turbocharged engines.
Removing the catalytic converters from the exhaust path reduces the restriction associated with the original catalyst assemblies. This may influence exhaust backpressure, turbocharger operating conditions and engine response.
The straight-through design also produces a more pronounced exhaust sound, emphasising the distinctive character of the GT2 RS twin-turbocharged flat-six engine.
Fabspeed developed the pipes specifically for the 2011 Porsche 997.2 GT2 RS, with an application-specific bolt-on configuration that allows the original components to be removed and refitted when required.
This makes the product particularly suitable for dedicated race cars and track-focused GT2 RS builds where the applicable motorsport regulations permit their use.
