For cars WITHOUT Ceramic Brake PCCB
Engineered to work perfectly with OE and Zimmermann brake discs, these front brake pads deliver progressive braking response, excellent resistance to brake fade, low brake noise and reduced brake dust while maintaining the braking characteristics Porsche intended.
What Do the Front Brake Pads Do?
Front brake pads are the primary friction components of your Porsche's braking system. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the pads against the front brake discs, generating friction that converts the vehicle's kinetic energy into heat, slowing and safely stopping the vehicle.
Their primary functions include:
- Providing the majority of the vehicle's braking force.
- Delivering smooth, progressive stopping performance.
- Maintaining braking stability under heavy deceleration.
- Supporting Porsche ABS and Porsche Stability Management (PSM).
- Providing precise pedal feel and driver confidence.
- Delivering reliable braking performance in all driving conditions.
Because the front axle performs most of the braking work, maintaining high-quality brake pads is essential for optimum safety and performance.
Why Do Front Brake Pads Wear Out?
Brake pads are designed as consumable service components and
naturally wear through normal operation. Common causes include:
- Continuous friction against the brake discs.
- High temperatures generated during braking.
- Fast road and spirited driving.
- Track day use. Repeated heavy braking.
- Natural wear of the friction material.
- High vehicle mileage.
- Brake disc wear affecting pad contact.
Performance models such as the 991 Turbo, 992 and 718 GTS 4.0 place greater demands on the braking system, increasing brake pad wear during enthusiastic driving.
When Should the Front Brake Pads Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- The brake pad wear warning light is illuminated.
- The friction material reaches Porsche's minimum service thickness.
- Braking performance begins to decline.
- Squealing or grinding noises develop.
- Uneven brake pad wear is detected.
- Front brake discs are being replaced.
- During scheduled brake servicing.
- Before track events if the remaining pad material is approaching its wear limit.
For optimum braking performance, brake pad wear sensors should always be replaced whenever new brake pads are installed to ensure accurate brake wear monitoring and reliable operation.

What they do
- These pad units convert the motion of your vehicle into stopping power by pressing the friction material against the disc, transforming kinetic energy into heat in a controlled manner—ensuring reliable deceleration, consistent response and minimal fade.
- The pb:z line uses friction-material mixtures drawn from up to 25 different raw materials, tailored specifically for each vehicle’s braking system and usage profile.
- Manufactured with careful control of temperature, pressure and time, the production process ensures that each pad set meets the design criteria for braking comfort, precision and functional safety.
- Your advantage: the pb:z range in ‘OES-quality’ (Original Equipment-Standard quality) delivers highest level of brake comfort, precision for highest functional safety, and is available for some special applications.
- Further benefits: long lifespan, very smooth performance, and conformity to ECE R90 standards for braking performance.
Why brake pads fail
- Friction-material wear: Over time, the pad material thins, reducing the effective contact area and friction coefficient. When the pad becomes too thin, stopping distance increases and performance deteriorates.
- Thermal overload or glazing: Under repeated heavy braking or mismatched pad/disc pairing, the surface can harden or glaze, losing its ideal friction characteristics—leading to fade or uneven braking.
- Uneven pad-to-disc contact: If pads don’t make full uniform contact due to disc warpage, caliper misalignment, or incorrect installation, only portions of the pad carry load, which accelerates wear or creates hotspots.
- Corrosion or contaminants: Although the pb:z line offers optimal corrosion protection, external factors (salt, water ingress, lack of maintenance) can degrade surfaces, impairing pad stability and life.
- Loss of comfort/damping features: If design features like damping plates or proper backing-plates are compromised, then vibration, noise or uneven wear may emerge—reducing the pad’s effective lifespan or creating failure symptoms.
Why they should be replaced
- Maintain stopping power and safety: To retain predictable braking distances, consistent pedal feel and full system responsiveness, the pad set must operate within specification. Once friction material wears beyond safe limits, system performance suffers.
- Protect the rest of the braking system: Worn or failing pads can lead to disc damage, caliper piston overheating, or uneven rotor wear—resulting in higher repair costs down the line.
- Preserve refinement and driving comfort: The pb:z pad set offers smooth, quiet operation with minimal noise or vibration. Replacing at the correct time preserves that comfort and refined braking feel.
- Conform to regulatory and planned performance standards: Since these pads are designed to comply with ECE R90 and built to high-precision standards, replacing them at appropriate intervals ensures you retain this benchmark level of braking behaviour and safety.
- Match the development pedigree: These pads result from advanced development cycles (2-3 years plus extensive testing) and represent a replacement-grade compared to generic alternatives. Choosing timely replacement helps you maintain performance aligned with original design intent.

Your Advantages:
- Over 1,000 product variants
- Large storage capacity (120,000 sets) for rapid availability
- OE quality standards
- OES quality Long service life Smooth and consistent braking performance
- Complies with ECE R90 regulations
- Excellent corrosion protection
- Complete range from a single supplier
What they do:
- The pads are engineered to convert kinetic energy into thermal energy by pressing against the brake disc—a controlled friction process that brings the vehicle to a stop with minimal fade and consistent feel.
- ZIMMERMANN uses friction-material mixtures drawn from up to 25 different raw-material types, tailored to vehicle and braking system demands.
- The result is a braking solution that boasts long lifespan, very smooth performance, and largely conforms to ECE R90 standards for defined braking behaviour and safety.
- Comfort-oriented features—such as damping plates, directional bevels, grooves and tuned vibration-absorbing layers—help suppress noise and vibration while maintaining crisp response.
Why brake pads fail:
- Wear-out of friction material: Over time, the pad material becomes thinner and loses its capacity to generate sufficient friction—leading to longer stopping distance and reduced effectiveness.
- Glazing or thermal overload: When subjected to repeated heavy braking or high temperature without proper match to the disc, the pad surface can harden (glaze) or lose its ideal friction coefficient, reducing deceleration.
- Uneven contact or mismatch: If the pad and disc aren’t perfectly paired (material mismatch, incorrect installation, warped disc) then only part of the pad surface may work, causing hotspots, uneven wear, vibration or faster failure.
- Loss of comfort/design features: Without the built-in damping/chamfering/tuned geometry, pads may generate noise, harshness, uneven wear or premature damage—especially in compact performance systems where tolerances are tight.
Why they should be replaced:
- Ensuring the braking system delivers its designed stopping power means you maintain safe deceleration, consistent pedal feel and proper response under emergency or repeated use.
- Replacing before performance degrades protects other components—worn pads can harm the brake discs, calipers or result in higher repair cost.
- Comfort and refinement are part of the product promise: the ZIMMERMANN pad set’s smooth operation and low-noise design mean you preserve vehicle refinement, not just raw performance.
- Compliance matters: Because the pads largely conform to ECE R90, using a worn or incompatible pad may move you away from the standardised braking behaviour expected for your vehicle, especially important in high-end or performance cars.
- The development pedigree behind the pads (2–3 years of development cycles, extensive test-miles) means the replacement component offers replacement-grade quality rather than a generic substitute.

Zimmermann’s engineering process uses premium friction materials to deliver stable braking force, low noise, and excellent heat resistance, ensuring performance aligned with Porsche levels of safety and reliability—without mentioning or depending on the term “OEM”.
What These Handbrake Shoes Do
Handbrake shoes
operate inside the rear brake discs' internal drum, providing mechanical
braking force separate from the hydraulic main braking system.
Key
Functions of Handbrake Shoes
- Secure parking hold on inclines and uneven
surfaces
- Smooth handbrake engagement with predictable
response
- Consistent friction due to durable lining
materials
- Stable mechanical braking even in cold or
wet conditions
- Long-term durability under repeated tension and load
Zimmermann’s friction compound ensures optimal grip without excessive wear, making them ideal for both daily use and spirited driving environments.
Why Handbrake Shoes Fail
Parking brake
shoes wear differently than disc brake pads, but they remain susceptible to
aging, contamination and mechanical degradation.
Common
Causes of Failure
- Lining wear from repeated parking brake
engagement
- Corrosion from moisture, salt or long
storage periods
- Glazing due to overheating from driving with
the handbrake partially engaged
- Delamination where the friction lining
separates from the shoe backing
- Mechanical fatigue from worn springs or
mechanisms
- Accumulated debris inside the brake drum reducing friction
Worn or damaged handbrake shoes can cause weak holding power, handbrake warning lights, noises, or MOT/inspection failures.
Zimmermann’s construction resists moisture, heat and debris, reducing the likelihood of premature failure.
Why They Should Be Replaced
Replacing old
or fatigued handbrake shoes restores the
Porsche’s essential safety functions and parking stability.
Benefits of
Replacement
- Restores full parking brake strength
- Prevents vehicle movement on slopes
- Improves handbrake feel and pedal/lever travel
- Prevents rotor damage caused by metal-to-metal contact
