Rear Brake Pad Wear Sensor - Sold each
Maintain the safety, reliability and performance of your
Porsche braking system with this OE Match Rear Brake Pad Wear Sensor. Designed specifically for Porsche 997 Carrera 2S and Carrera 4S
models, this sensor forms a vital part of the factory brake wear monitoring
system, helping drivers monitor rear brake pad condition and schedule
maintenance before braking performance is affected.
Fits:
Installed directly into the rear brake pad assembly, the wear sensor monitors the remaining thickness of the brake pad friction material. When the pads approach their minimum service limit, the sensor activates the dashboard brake wear warning light, alerting the driver that replacement is required.
For high-performance sports cars such as the Porsche 997 Carrera S models, maintaining the brake wear monitoring system is essential for preserving braking efficiency, protecting expensive brake components and ensuring maximum driving confidence.
What Does a Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?
The brake pad wear sensor continuously monitors brake pad thickness throughout its service life.
As the brake friction material wears down, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc and completes an electrical circuit, triggering the brake wear warning light on the instrument cluster.
A correctly functioning sensor helps:
- Monitor brake pad condition
- Provide early brake wear warnings
- Prevent excessive brake pad wear
- Protect brake discs from damage
- Improve maintenance scheduling
- Support safe braking performance
- Maintain factory brake monitoring functionality
The sensor acts as an important preventative maintenance component, helping avoid costly brake repairs.
Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?
Brake wear sensors are exposed to extreme operating conditions including heat, vibration, moisture and road contamination.
Common causes of failure include:
- Normal brake pad wear
- Sensor activation when brake pads reach their wear limit
- Damaged wiring
- Corrosion in electrical connectors
- Heat-related deterioration
- Water ingress
- Physical damage during brake servicing
- Age-related material fatigue
As brake wear sensors are considered service items, they should be replaced whenever they become activated or damaged.
When Should a Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever brake pads are changed or if the sensor has become damaged.
Common symptoms include:
- Brake wear warning light illuminated
- Intermittent brake warning messages
- Damaged or broken sensor wiring
- False brake wear warnings
- Corroded electrical connections
- Sensor damage during brake servicing
- Rear brake pad replacement due to wear
Replacing the sensor during brake pad replacement ensures the monitoring system continues to function correctly.
Why Replacement Matters
A functioning brake wear sensor helps maintain braking safety and protects expensive brake system components.
Benefits include:
- Accurate brake pad monitoring
- Reliable dashboard warning operation
- Improved braking safety
- Protection of brake discs
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Better servicing planning
- Improved brake system reliability
- Long-term braking component protection
For Porsche 997 owners, maintaining the brake wear monitoring system helps preserve both performance and peace of mind.

The purpose of a brake pad wear sensor is to monitor pad thickness. When the pad material wears to a certain point, the sensor closes a circuit or sends a signal to the vehicle's brake control module, alerting the driver to replace the pads. Built to OEM specifications, it ensures the correct connector type, length, mounting clamp interface, and resistance calibration, consistent with factory parameters. It should normally be replaced when replacing your brake pads.

Porsche 997 C2S MKI 2005-08 Front Caliper
Porsche 997 C2S MKII 2009>> Front Caliper
• Position on Vehicle: Mounted adjacent to the front disc brake pads, typically clipped into the caliper or pad backing plate with the sensor end extending to contact the rotor or matching pad drain hole.
• Applications: Ideal when the original wear sensor has failed, is missing, or during brake pad replacement to ensure the wear-warning circuit remains intact and fully functional.
The brake pad wear sensor is a small yet essential part of your vehicle’s safety system. When it fails or is removed, your brake pad wear monitoring may become inactive - leading to unnoticed pad depletion, increased rotor wear or even unscheduled brake failure. Replacing it ensures that when your pads reach their safe limit, you’ll receive an accurate alert and can service your brakes in time.
When and why to replace:
• The brake pad wear warning light is showing, indicating the sensor circuit has been triggered or failed.
• The sensor wiring is damaged, corroded, or the sensor itself is missing or reused excessively.
• During brake pad replacement - fitting a new sensor ensures the system remains fully functional.
• After any caliper or brake overhaul where the original sensor connection might have been disturbed.
• When using non-standard or aggressive brake pads, where ensuring the warning circuit works is particularly important.

The front brake pad wear sensor is fitted to the brake pad and forms part of the vehicle's braking safety system. As the brake pad wears, the sensor contacts the brake disc, triggering the dashboard warning indicator to notify the driver that the pads require replacement. During routine brake servicing, the sensor should always be inspected and replaced if worn or damaged to ensure continued accuracy of the brake wear warning system.
What This Product Does:
- Monitors the wear level of the front brake pads.
- Triggers the dashboard brake wear warning when pads reach their service limit.
- Helps prevent excessive brake pad wear.
- Supports safe and timely brake maintenance.
- Provides reliable electrical communication with the vehicle's warning system.
- Replaces worn, damaged, or activated brake pad wear sensors.
- Provides an OE-style fit for straightforward installation.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Brake pad wear warning light remaining illuminated.
- Brake wear warning failing to operate correctly.
- Damaged or broken sensor wiring.
- Worn or activated brake pad wear sensor during brake servicing.
- Corrosion affecting the electrical connector.
- Physical damage caused during brake pad replacement.
- Intermittent brake wear warning faults.
Why Replacement Matters:
- The front brake pad wear sensor plays an essential role in monitoring brake pad condition and providing an early warning when replacement is required. A damaged or previously activated sensor may fail to provide accurate wear information, potentially allowing brake pads to wear beyond their safe operating limits or generating false warning messages.
- Replacing the brake pad wear sensor whenever the front brake pads are renewed helps maintain the accuracy of the brake wear monitoring system, supporting safe braking performance and reducing the risk of unnecessary brake component damage. Manufactured as a direct replacement and produced to OE-style specifications, this OE Match Front Brake Pad Wear Sensor provides reliable fit, performance, and durability for Porsche maintenance, repairs, and restoration projects.
