Installed directly into the rear brake pad assembly, the sensor continuously monitors the remaining brake friction material. Once the pads wear to a predetermined limit, the sensor activates the dashboard brake wear warning light, alerting the driver that brake pad replacement is required.
What This Product Does:
- Monitors rear brake pad wear throughout the life of the brake pads.
- Activates the brake wear warning light when service is required.
- Provides early notification of brake maintenance requirements.
- Helps prevent excessive brake pad wear.
- Protects brake discs from damage caused by worn brake pads.
- Supports safe and efficient braking performance.
- Assists with preventative brake system maintenance.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Brake wear warning light remaining illuminated.
- Intermittent brake wear warning messages.
- False brake wear alerts despite sufficient brake pad thickness.
- No warning indication when brake pads are excessively worn.
- Damaged, broken or frayed sensor wiring.
- Corrosion or physical damage to the sensor body.
- Brake monitoring fault codes stored within the vehicle system.
- Warning light remaining active after brake pad replacement.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Rear brake pad wear sensors operate in demanding conditions and are exposed to brake dust, heat, moisture, road debris and constant vibration. In many applications, the sensor is designed to wear alongside the brake pads and should be replaced whenever new rear brake pads are installed to ensure continued monitoring accuracy.
- A damaged or malfunctioning sensor can provide inaccurate information about brake pad condition, potentially resulting in unnecessary warning lights or failure to alert the driver when brake service is required. If brake pads are allowed to wear beyond their safe operating limit, braking efficiency may be reduced and costly damage to the brake discs can occur.
- Replacing a worn rear brake pad wear sensor restores accurate brake wear monitoring, ensures correct operation of the dashboard warning system and helps maintain safe braking performance. An OE Match replacement provides factory-style fitment, dependable operation and long-term reliability, making it an essential component during brake servicing and maintenance.

Brake pad wear sensor
OE Match brake pad wear sensor for Porsche 964 and 993 models. This replacement brake wear indicator helps monitor brake pad condition and alert the driver when the brake pads are reaching their service limit. These should normally be replaced when replacing your brake pads.
Sold individually, There are 2 per axle.
Porsche 964 C2 / C4 1989 - 1994 Front Caliper
Porsche 964 Turbo/RS 1991 - 1992 Front Caliper
Porsche 993 C2 / C4 1994 - 1997 Front Caliper
The brake pad wear sensor fits into the brake pad assembly and monitors pad wear. When the brake pad material wears down to the sensor contact point, the system can trigger a dashboard warning, indicating that brake pad replacement is required.
Functions
• Replaces the brake pad wear sensor
• Monitors brake pad wear condition
• Helps trigger the brake pad warning system
• Supports safe and timely brake pad replacement
• Used during brake pad or brake system service
• Replaces worn, damaged, broken, brittle, or previously triggered sensors
• OE Match replacement for Porsche 964 and 993 brake maintenance.
Why Replace This Part?
Brake pad wear sensors are designed to wear with the brake pads and may be damaged or triggered once the pads reach their wear limit. Sensors can also become brittle, corroded, broken, or damaged during brake servicing. Replacing the sensor during brake pad replacement helps restore the warning system and prevents false or missing brake wear alerts.
When to Replace This Part
• Brake pads are being replaced
• The brake pad wear warning light is illuminated
• The sensor has been triggered by worn brake pads
• The sensor wire is damaged, broken, brittle, or corroded
• Brake warning faults are being diagnosed
• The sensor was damaged during brake service
• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche 964 or 993 brake system restoration.
Where it fits on the car
This sensor fits within the brake pad wear monitoring system on Porsche 964 and 993 models. Exact position can vary depending on model year, axle position, brake caliper type, and brake pad specification.
