Manufactured to OE specifications for fit, performance and reliability, this sensor helps ensure brake maintenance is carried out before braking performance is compromised.
Fits:
- Porsche 928S2 4.7L 1984-86
- Porsche 928S4 5.0L 1987-92
Fitted directly into the brake pad assembly, the wear sensor forms part of the vehicle's brake monitoring system and communicates with the dashboard warning circuit. When the brake pad friction material wears to a predetermined level, the sensor activates the brake wear warning indicator, alerting the driver that replacement brake pads are required.
What This Product Does:
- Monitors brake pad wear during normal operation.
- Activates the brake pad wear warning light when pads reach their wear limit.
- Provides early notification of required brake maintenance.
- Helps prevent excessive brake pad wear.
- Protects brake discs from damage caused by worn-out pads.
- Supports safe and effective braking performance.
- Assists with preventative maintenance of the braking system.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Brake wear warning light remaining permanently illuminated.
- Intermittent brake wear warning messages.
- False wear warnings despite adequate brake pad thickness.
- No warning light when brake pads are excessively worn.
- Damaged, frayed or broken sensor wiring.
- Corrosion or physical damage to the sensor body.
- Brake monitoring fault codes stored in the vehicle system.
- Warning light remaining active after brake pad replacement.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Brake pad wear sensors operate in a harsh environment, exposed to high temperatures, brake dust, moisture, road debris and constant vibration. As part of their design, many sensors are intended to wear alongside the brake pads and are commonly replaced during brake servicing.
- A damaged or worn sensor can provide inaccurate information regarding brake pad condition. This may result in unnecessary warning lights or, more critically, failure to alert the driver when brake pads require replacement. If brake pads are allowed to wear beyond their service limit, brake discs can become damaged, increasing repair costs and reducing braking effectiveness.
- Replacing a worn brake pad wear sensor restores accurate brake monitoring functionality, ensures the warning system operates correctly and helps maintain safe braking performance. An OE Match replacement provides factory-style fitment, dependable operation and long-term reliability, making it an essential component whenever brake pads are replaced.

Information
Brake pad wear sensor, Rear.
High-quality OE Match replacement rear brake pad wear sensor, engineered to match original Porsche specifications for monitoring rear brake pad wear. Designed for Porsche 997 models, this sensor works with the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system to provide timely alerts when the rear brake pads approach the service limit.
Sold individually, typically 2 sensors per axle for complete rear pad sets
Fits:
Porsche 997.2 C2 2009 - 2012 Rear Caliper
Porsche 997.2 C4 / C4S 2009 - 2012 Rear Caliper
Porsche 997 TT / GT2 2007 - 2013 Rear Caliper
Porsche 997 GT3 2007 - 2013 Rear Caliper
The rear brake pad wear sensor detects when the brake pad material has worn to its minimum safe thickness and signals the vehicle’s warning system. This alert enables brake servicing before the pads cause damage to other braking components.
Function:
• Monitors rear brake pad wear
• Interfaces with the vehicle’s onboard warning system
• Helps prevent brake rotor damage from worn pads
Brake pads naturally wear down with use. A functioning brake pad wear sensor ensures you receive timely alerts before the pads reach critically low levels. Without a reliable sensor, pad wear may go unnoticed, leading to reduced braking performance, rotor damage, and safety concerns - especially on performance-oriented vehicles like the 997.
When to replace:
• Brake wear warning light appears
• Sensor wiring or connector is damaged or corroded
• After rear brake pad replacement
• During routine brake system servicing
• When upgrading brake components

Front Brake Pad Wear Sensor
Sold each - 2 required per car
Maintain the safety and effectiveness of your Porsche
braking system with this OE Match Front Brake Pad Wear Sensor, commonly
referred to as the brake pad warning wire, for the Porsche 997 Carrera 4S. This
important component continuously monitors brake pad wear and alerts the driver
when the pads have reached their service limit.
Porsche 997 MK1 Carrera 4S 3.8L 2005-08
Porsche 997 MKII Carrera C4S 3.8L 2009-12
Installed directly into the brake pad, the wear sensor forms part of the vehicle's brake monitoring system. As the brake pads wear down, the sensor eventually contacts the brake disc, breaking the electrical circuit and triggering the brake pad warning light on the dashboard. This provides a clear indication that the brake pads require replacement.
Manufactured to OE Match standards, this replacement sensor offers reliable performance, correct fitment and dependable brake wear monitoring.
What Does the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Do?
The brake pad wear sensor is designed to monitor the thickness of the brake pads.
Its primary functions include:
- Monitoring brake pad wear
- Activating the dashboard warning light
- Alerting the driver to required brake maintenance
- Supporting safe vehicle operation
- Preventing excessive brake pad wear
- Helping protect brake discs from damage
- Supporting routine brake servicing
The sensor acts as an early warning system, helping drivers replace brake pads before braking performance is compromised.
Why Do Brake Pad Wear Sensors Fail?
Brake wear sensors operate in a demanding environment exposed to heat, moisture, dirt and vibration.
Common causes of failure include:
- Normal brake pad wear
- Sensor activation after pad wear
- Heat damage
- Road debris impact
- Corrosion within electrical connections
- Wiring damage
- Brake servicing damage
- Age-related deterioration
In many cases, the sensor is designed as a service item and is typically replaced whenever the brake pads are renewed.
When Should the Brake Pad Wear Sensor Be Replaced?
Replacement is recommended whenever:
- The brake wear warning light is illuminated
- New brake pads are installed
- The sensor has contacted the brake disc
- The wiring is damaged
- Corrosion is present
- Brake servicing is being carried out
- Fault codes indicate sensor failure
- Preventative maintenance is being performed
Most Porsche technicians recommend fitting new sensors whenever new brake pads are installed.
Why Replacement Matters
A damaged or worn sensor can prevent the brake monitoring system from operating correctly.
Benefits of replacement include:
- Accurate brake wear monitoring
- Reliable warning light operation
- Improved vehicle safety
- Protection against excessive pad wear
- Prevention of brake disc damage
- Correct brake system functionality
- Reduced maintenance risks
- Restoration of factory brake monitoring performance
Replacing a worn sensor is a simple and cost-effective way to maintain the effectiveness of the Porsche brake warning system.
