Alternator belt
OE Match alternator belt for Porsche 944 and 968 models without air conditioning. This replacement drive belt helps power the alternator and support correct charging system operation.
Fits:
Porsche 944 1989-91 Cars without air conditioning
Porsche 968 1992-95 Cars without air conditioning
Diagram ref no 6
The alternator belt transfers rotational drive from the engine pulley to the alternator. This allows the alternator to generate electrical power for the vehicle and charge the battery while the engine is running. A correctly tensioned and good-condition belt is essential for reliable electrical system operation.
Functions
• Replaces the alternator drive belt
• Drives the alternator from the engine pulley
• Supports correct battery charging
• Helps maintain electrical system performance
• Suitable for vehicles without air conditioning
• Replaces cracked, glazed, stretched, frayed, or slipping belts
• OE Match replacement for Porsche 944 and 968 charging system service.
Why Replace This Part?
Alternator belts wear over time due to heat, engine vibration, pulley contact, age, and tension changes. A worn belt can crack, glaze, stretch, fray, squeal, or slip on the pulleys. If the belt fails, the alternator may stop charging the battery, which can lead to warning lights, electrical faults, flat battery issues, or vehicle breakdown. Replacing the belt helps maintain dependable charging system operation.
When to Replace This Part
• The alternator belt is cracked, glazed, frayed, loose, or worn
• Belt squeal is heard during start-up or acceleration
• The battery warning light appears
• Charging system output is low or inconsistent
• The alternator, pulleys, or tensioning components are being serviced
• Preventative belt replacement is being carried out during maintenance
• The vehicle is undergoing Porsche 944 or 968 engine bay refurbishment.
Where it fits on the car
This belt fits on the alternator drive system on Porsche 944 and 968 models without air conditioning. It runs between the relevant engine pulley and alternator pulley according to the factory belt routing.

Information
Drive belt tensioner (Hydraulic Portion).
The Genuine Porsche Drive Belt Tensioner (Part No. 94810226121) is used in Porsche Cayenne (92A) and Panamera (970) models. This tensioner maintains proper tension and alignment of the serpentine (ribbed) belt, ensuring the alternator, air-conditioning compressor, power steering pump and other accessories function smoothly.
Fits:
Porsche 958 Cayenne S / GTS / Turbo 4.8L 2011 - 2018
Porsche 970 Panamera 3.6L 2011 - 2016
Porsche 970 Panamera S / GTS / Turbo 4.8L 2010 - 2016
Diagram ref no 3
The belt tensioner plays a critical role in the accessory-drive system: a failing or loose tensioner can allow belt slippage, mis-routing, increased accessory wear or belt breakage. This has implications for alternator output, A/C performance, power steering function and overall engine reliability. By using the genuine Porsche tensioner, you protect the accessory system, maintain factory behaviour and avoid secondary damage.
When to replace:
• Audible belt squeal, chirp or rumble when the engine is started or under load.
• Belt shows signs of wear, mis-tracking or vibration.
• Tensioner or pulley appears worn, loose or has excessive play.
• During serpentine belt replacement or major engine service where access is available.
• High-mileage vehicles where the original tensioner may be nearing end of service life.
