Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche
Where Cartronic Motorsport is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.
- Typically chosen for specialist Porsche motorsport-style upgrades where owners want sharper response and track-oriented performance, often to improve consistency under heat and address weak points exposed on track.
- Common issues that lead to upgrades include brake fade, heat soak, inconsistent feel under load, premature wear, and increased NVH when moving to stiffer components.
- Electrical and control-related problems may show as intermittent no-start, misfires, rough running, poor charging, warning lights, or heat-related failures, so testing before replacement is important.
- Support checks include confirming battery health, grounds and earth straps, and connector condition, and avoiding decisions based only on fault codes without proper diagnosis.
- Owners are often advised to upgrade in stages, with matching tyres, fluid, and geometry, and to measure results such as temperatures, wear, and consistency to get the best from performance parts.
- Many “part failures” are made worse by old fluid, tired bushes, incorrect alignment, or marginal sensors, so addressing these basics can prevent repeat issues.
Browse by Category
If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.
Engine Electrical — Engine electrical components for Porsche are typically replaced when there are starting, charging, ignition, or sensor-related faults that affect drivability and reliability, such as intermittent no-start, rough running, misfires, poor charging, or warning lights; choosing known-quality parts helps avoid repeat issues and misleading fault codes.
- Confirm electrical faults by checking battery condition, grounds/earth straps, connector corrosion, and voltage drop under load rather than relying on fault codes alone.
- Inspect connectors, wiring, and sensor mounting carefully, especially after heat cycles or vibration, and replace only once you have test evidence.
Distributor — Distributors on Porsche engines are changed when ignition timing and spark delivery become unreliable, for example due to worn shafts or bushes, sticking advance mechanisms, or oil and moisture contamination, which can cause timing scatter, misfires, rough idle, and flat performance under load.
- Use a timing light to check for unstable timing and rotor/shaft play if you suspect the distributor, and inspect inside the cap for oil, moisture, or tracking.
- Replacing cap and rotor together with a worn distributor is common practice, as wear in one often masks problems in the other.

Product Description
This kit warns the Porsche 964/993 driver of a catastrophic distributor belt failure. The failure of the secondary distributor head drive belt will result in severe damage to the engine if the car is continued to be driven with a broken belt. The kit integrates with the existing engine cooling system fan belt warning system.
Once installed, if the distributor belt breaks, the fan belt warning light will illuminate on the car’s dashboard. A Visual inspection of the engine bay will reveal if the reason the dashboard light illuminated is a broken fan belt or broken distributor belt.
Kit Includes:
• Cover with integrated control electronics
• Set of connection cables
• Cable ties
• 2 x Neodymium magnets (5x4x2), pre-assembled in shrink tubing
• 1 tube of adhesive gel (20-30 seconds drying time for gluing the magnets)
• 1 retaining plate for sensor element (blue anodized aluminum plate)
• 1 sensor element assembly
• 1 alcohol cleaning pad (for cleaning the adhesive surfaces of the metal tabs in the distributor)
